Mistaken identity of 'The Silent Heroes' director

Mistaken identity of 'The Silent Heroes' director
Sharing his name with Vishesh Films' co-owner Mahesh Bhatt, journalist-turned-director Mahesh Bhatt, who is ready with his debut directorial "The Silent Heroes", says he wants to concentrate on content while making films rather than changing his name.

"I thought I should rather concentrate on my content which would be better for me in the long run rather than changing my name. It would be better if the comparison is on the basis of the films we make rather than the name. Name's no big deal," the debutant director said.

"The Silent Heroes", he said, is an "adventurous film" with all ingredients of a thriller, having all ingredients of a taut thriller set against the backdrop of the Himalayas.

"You can draw parallels between this film and any other international adventurous thriller film. And at its core, it is fully a family entertaining film," he added.

"The Silent Heroes" features 13 deaf children with full grit to look confident on the screen, said the director.

"I wanted to do the film with real deaf children who have actually gone through the pain and hardships of being handicapped because only they could have done justice to the roles... and they have," he added.

"The Silent Heroes" is slated to release in September 2015.

R Balki: Rajesh Khanna wanted to do a film with me

R Balki: Rajesh Khanna wanted to do a film with me
R Balki was the last one to direct Rajesh Khanna in a TV commercial just few months before his death and the director said the superstar wanted to work with him in a film.

"When the concept of the ad on fan happened, I was clear in my mind that it had to be Rajesh Khanna. I saw all his films during that time to know more about his gestures and I was absolutely hypnotised by this man... "We met on the sets and Rajesh Khanna said 'I want to work with you. Why don't you write something for me?'," Balki said in an even last evening that paid an ode to the Indian cinema's first superstar on his third death anniversary.

Balki revealed that as a teenager he was never a fan of the "Aradhana" star unlike his friends.

"I was never a fan of Rajesh Khanna. I never grew up watching his films. I was an Amitabh Bachchan fan... But I used to find him (Khanna) an incredibly handsome guy," he said.

Despite being a huge star, Khanna did not mind making fun of his stardom, said Balki, whose ad revolved around the fact that "Prem Nagar" lost his fan following after '60s and '70s.

Khanna's health deteriorated after the commercial and he became bed-ridden. He passed away on July 18 at the age of 69.

'Hunterrr' Director plans it's sequel

'Hunterrr' Director plans it's sequel

Director Harshavardhan Kulkarni, who helmed 'Hunterrr', says he is planning a sequel of the adult comedy.

'Hunterrr', released in March this year, starred Gulshan Devaiah, Radhika Apte and Sai Tamhankar in lead roles.

"We had not thought of making a sequel. It is because of the good response to the film that we are thinking about the sequel. We are toying with ideas for the sequel. Talks are on... they are at nascent stage," Kulkarni told PTI.

The film revolved around character of Mandar Ponkshe, played by Devaiah, and his lustful journey in life.

"There are two-three ideas that we are having. One is how we can show things post Mandar's marriage. But nothing is finalised yet," he said.

Kulkarni said he will repeat the cast besides some additions. The sequel is likely to go on floors next year.

Umesh Shukla: Abhishek is modern day Shravan Kumar in 'All Is Well'

Umesh Shukla: Abhishek is modern day Shravan Kumar in 'All Is Well'

After dealing with faith in his debut 'OMG', filmmaker Umesh Shukla is back with 'All Is Well', which revolves around a modern family with Abhishek Bachchan playing the role of a present day Shravan Kumar.

The 'Happy New Year' actor is playing the role of a devoted son to Rishi Kapoor and Supriya Pathak in the comedy-drama film while Asin Thottumkal is his love interest.

"Abhishek is playing a modern day version of Shravan Kumar (a mythological character in Ramayana known for his devotion to his parents). He plays a son who gets troubled watching his parents fight and yet is very devoted to them. His character has to balance both, his parents and his personal life," Shulka told PTI.

The director, who won critical acclaim for his satirical take on god-men in his hit 2012 drama "OMG - Oh My God!", said he chose to do "All is Well" because of it's universal appeal.

"OMG had a universal subject, that of God and faith. Similarly, 'All is Well' tackles the theme of families and the complexities we have in them. I wanted a universal subject, one which will connect with people across all generations." The film chronicles the story of a debt-ridden bakery owner, Kapoor, who misplaces the jewellery of his wife (Supriya) and then undertakes a road trip along with his hassled son to find a solution.

Shukla, however, denied any comparison with this years hit road-trip movie 'Piku', starring Amitabh Bachchan and Deepika Padukone, and said the subjects of both the films are different.

"Yes, both movies talk about parent-child relationship and feature road-trip, but the subject is completely different.

"Every romantic film will have 'I love you', similarly, every road trip movie will have a journey and some complications. Our film would've released earlier but it got delayed due to some reasons."

The director said he is not feeling "any pressure at all" after his successful Akshay Kumar-Paresh Rawal starrer "Oh My God".

"There is no pressure at all. I am aware that expectations are there but I am confident of the film. As a filmamker it is extremely important for me to explore other genres while still delivering a good film," he said.

The director said Abhishek was always the first choice for the movie and pairing him with Rishi Kapoor came as a bonus as the two had a crackling chemistry.

"Abhishek was always there on my mind for the role because he is one of those actors who can pull off both a 'Guru' and a 'Happy New Year' with ease. I needed this quality in my character too who can be both emotional and funny.

"Rishi and Abhishek share a very good chemistry and the audience will enjoy watching them."

"All is Well" is scheduled to release on August 21.

Tabu open to playing mother's role but with substance

Tabu open to playing mother's role but with substance

Actress Tabu, known for her versatile performances, has no qualms about playing the role of a mother in films.

Tabu, who essayed the role of Shahid Kapoor's mother in "Haider", says she is open to playing mother to younger actors like Varun Dhawan, Arjun Kapoor and others.

"It depends on the character (of mother)...if the character is nice then I will do it. Otherwise I will not do boring mother roles," Tabu told PTI in an interview here.

Tabu is now excited to step into the shoes of Rekha for Abhishek Kapoor's "Fitoor". The film also stars Aditya Roy Kapoor and Katrina Kaif.

"I just did one scene with him (Aditya Roy Kapoor). I have a lot of things to do. Gattu (director Abhishek Kapoor) is a friend, I have known him for a long time. It has been a good experience," Tabu said.

When asked about Rekha and if there is a sense of pressure, Tabu says, "It is a huge project."

Big B to make special appearance in R Balki's next film

Big B to make special appearance in R Balki's next film

Filmmaker R Balki has revealed his upcoming movie, which has Arjun Kapoor and Kareena Kapoor Khan in the lead, will have a 'very special appearance' by megastar Amitabh Bachchan.

The yet untitled film will see Arjun teaming up with the 'Bajrangi Bhaijaan' actress for the first time.

"I will start shooting my next with Kareena and Arjun soon. It has Mr Bachchan in it. He is doing a very special appearance in the film. Without his appearance the film will not be possible," Balki told PTI.

The director, who is an ardent Bachchan fan, has worked with the actor in all the films including "Cheeni Kum", "Paa" and his latest "Shamitabh", which failed to create a buzz at the box-office.

Richa Chadda: 'Women's problems cannot be solved by selfie'

Richa Chadda: 'Women's problems cannot be solved by selfie'

Richa Chadda has termed Prime Minister Narendra Modi's 'selfie with daughter' campaign as sweet, but feels problems faced by women cannot be solved by .selfie or anything like that'.

"It was a sweet initiative: was a good initiative... there is no harm, but I thought it is an urban initiative ... the initiative is meant for those who have smart phones with them," Richa told PTI in an interview here.

"The problems of the female - dowry, sexual harassment, eve teasing and others - cannot be solved by selfie or anything like that," she said.

Richa, along with Vicky Kaushal, Shwetha Tripathi and director Neeraj Gheywan, was in the city to promote 'Masaan', which is slated to release on July 24 in the country.

The film portrays the relationship between father and daughter amid troubled times.

Asked about Bollywood films on father-daughter relationship she liked the most and how these were different from "Masaan", Richa said "Mili" and "Daddy" were two films that portrayed father-daughter relationship in a beautiful way.

"There is a very nice film called Mili - Amitabh Bachchan and Jaya Bachchan were in it. It is quite a beautiful film ... Mahesh Bhatt's "Daddy" is also very nice which spoke about the problem of addiction. The portrayal of father-daughter relationship is very nice," she said.

However, these two films are altogether different from "Masaan" - the father here is not at all supportive and rude to the character of Devi she is playing in the film, she said.

"In my film the father is not at all supportive. He is not nice to her at all; he is rude to her, though it is justifiable from the point of view of which society he comes from," she said.

"It is different because the story is set in the cultural context of Banaras, a city which is very religious in its character. The father's expectations of his daughter are very high. The weight of Maryada (dignity) is borne by the woman so, in that it is very different," she said.

She is also doing a film with Excel Entertainment.

"...It will start next year. They are still finalising the cast. It is about a guy who is a pathological liar, and the woman falls for him. I am playing a regular role," she said.

Ranbir and Katrina to pair up again?

Ranbir and Katrina to pair up again?
Apparently, YRF boss Aditya Chopra is said to be planning a rom-com with Ranbir Kapoor and Katrina Kaif which will also star Varun Dhawan

Ranbir Kapoor and Katrina Kaif, who will be seen together in Anurag Basu's 'Jagga Jasoos', are apparently being considered as the lead pair of a YRF movie. Sources say Varun Dhawan is also likely to be signed in the yet-to-be-announced film.

A source working on the project says, "Currently, the script is being worked out and it will most likely be a romantic comedy. As far as the casting goes, Aditya Chopra is keen on roping in Ranbir, Katrina and Varun as they will suit the characters being fleshed out. But it all depends on their availability."

In the past, Ranbir and Katrina's pairing has spun fairly successful films like 'Raajneeti' (2010) and 'Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani' (2009).

Ranbir was not available for comment while Kat said she wasn't aware of any such development. The YRF spokesperson, on the other hand, says, "We would not like to react to speculations on casting of our future films. Please wait for our forthcoming film announcements."

Kabir Khan: 'Bajrangi Bhaijaan' shows good values

Kabir Khan: 'Bajrangi Bhaijaan' shows good values

Director Kabir Khan says he has tried to show the good values of helping each other on screen through 'Bajrangi Bhaijaan'.

The Salman Khan-starrer movie shows how the people of Indian and Pakistan reunite for a good cause.

When asked if he had any personal experience in this regard, Kabir says, "No, you don't require experience for this. It is about values that you grow up on, so we are showing those values on screen."

In 'Bajrangi Bhaijaan', Salman plays the role of Pawan, an Indian, who helps a mute Pakistani girl Munni reach her home.

Salman had tweeted that the Prime Ministers of India and Pakistan should watch "Bajrangi Bhaijaan".

To this, Kabir says, "Children get lost and every child doesn't get a Bajrangi in his or her life. So there has to be a sensibility towards these things.

"What we do is if terrorists do something or something is happening at government level, we put the responsibility on a person, which is not right. We should not transfer the issues or problems to people, as in that people suffer. If you meet Pakistanis in Dubai, London or the US. We are one then... they are loving, caring," the director said.

Kabir feels that though social media is a good platform, there are people who abuse and that should stop.

The film, which has been getting good response from the audience since its release on July 17, has been shot primarily in Kashmir.

"Salman said he wanted to do cardio so we did trekking and went to the shoot. I have a love for finding locations... we try and get nice locations," Kabir said.

Apart from Salman, 'Bajrangi Bhaijaan' stars Kareena Kapoor Khan and Nawazuddin Siddiqui.
