Filmmaker Shoojit Sircar believes megastar Amitabh Bachchan will agree to take on the role of Incredible India campaign's brand ambassador, if the central government asks him to promote the campaign.

"I think if the government says then he will agree. He is a disciplined and principled person and that is why he is a legend. I will be happy if he becomes the brand ambassador," Sircar told a television channel here.

Superstar Aamir Khan had confirmed earlier this month that he was no longer brand ambassador of the Incredible India campaign and said he respected the government's decision not to extend his contract in this regard.

Actors have now become commodities: Sunny Deol

Actors have now become commodities: Sunny Deol

After giving a string of hits like "Ghayal", "Ghatak" and "Darr" in the 1990s, actor-filmmaker Sunny Deol says it really bothers him that people who were actors earlier, have now become "commodities" in the Hindi film fraternity.

"The industry and country have changed so fast. But my belief and thoughts didn't change along. I always thought that acting was basically an art where you are performing. You're picking up subjects and cinema was basically a reflection of the society," Sunny said on the show "Yaar Mera Superstar", which airs on Zoom.

"But somehow, as time passed by, things changed. It really bothers me that we people who were actors earlier have now become commodities," he added.

Directed by Sunny, "Ghayal Once Again" will continue from where the first version left off. The film is reportedly based on a real-life event in the life of a Mumbai police officer and also stars Soha Ali Khan.

"Ghayal Once Again" is slated to hit the screens on February 5.

Revealed: What Rock On!! 2 is all about

Revealed: What Rock On!! 2 is all about
Farhan Akhtar says his upcoming musical-drama 'Rock On!! 2' focuses on the conflict in the North-East region of India.

The movie has been majorly shot in Shillong, Meghalaya.

"The film really is about that place, about that culture, it is about the region's problem. The largest conflict in the movie is the regional conflict... There is a personal issue also but the main is the regional problem," Farhan said in an interview.

The 41-year-old 'Bhaag Milkha Bhaag' star said the movie will promote North-East music, which has a dedicated fan following across the country. "The movie is about rock and this genre is huge in the North-East.

There is a band in the region called Somersault, which is a part of the film, there is a song in Khassi. The Noth-East music features seriously in the film.

"I am very happy to do this (promote North-East music). It is important to bring everything in mainstream. Everybody in the North-East plays an instrument or they sing. You don't get to see that generally. When we were there, we had music playing 5 or 6 in the morning and no one was complaining. Everyone was enjoying that."

"Rock On!! 2", also starring Shraddha Kapoor and Arjun Rampal, is directed by Shujaat Saudagar. The sequel to 2008's box office success "Rock On!!" will release on November 11.

Farhan shared he has been penning songs for some time now and once he completes filming "Rock On! 2", he will focus on his songs. The multifaceted performer might release his own album or an array of separate singles.

"I am writing lyrics, not for any film but for myself. When I finish 'Rock On!! 2', I will take a two-three months off and complete my songs. I don't know if it will be an album, you don't need to release an album these days... It can be a single or three-four songs."

Farhan praised the current trend of singles, which was a big hit during the '90s.

"Indie music is getting rejuvenated now and it is a great thing because there are many bands, who are not interested in doing film music. God bless them for that. I feel an alternate culture needs to exist of expression and if through songs you can do that, then nothing like it."

SRK avoiding Incredible India issue, but why?

SRK avoiding Incredible India issue, but why?

Superstar Shah Rukh Khan wants to be left out of the Aamir Khan-Amitabh Bachchan Incredible India ambassador debate.

"I don't have anything to do with it: neither was I recruited nor was I let go. Please leave me out of it," SRK told media persons here on Monday at the launch of 'Shades of Bengal' coffee table book by Kansai Nerolac.

Superstar Aamir Khan had confirmed earlier this month that he was no longer brand ambassador of the Incredible India campaign and said he respected the government's decision not to extend his contract in this regard.

Speculations are rife that Big B will be roped in to promote the campaign after the end of Aamir's contract.

Another record on Hrithik's name

Another record on Hrithik's name

It was Hrithik Roshan's respect for Gulshan Kumar that he at once had agreed to be a part of Bhushan Kumar's recreated DheereDheere song from the original Aashiqui (a favourite song of Gulshan Kumar). Yo Yo Honey Singh happily created and sung the song and the video was shot in Turkey with the beautiful Sonam Kapoor opposite Hrithik. The song went on to becoming a hit and then a superhit but that's not the story. It's what happened after that that becomes news.

Gulshan Kumar was the first man in India, who launched and encouraged a whole new generation of singers and made the biggest music company with their talent. His son Bhushan continued that trend and started a new trend of singles with a vision to make it an alternate source of creativity and business for the music industry. Even though singles do not make money yet, he invested crores behind producing them confident that some day they would make money.

Dheere Dheere has achieved the unimaginable. It has crossed a 100 million views and has not only beaten any Bollywood song till date, but as confirmed by youtube, it has become the biggest hit ever in the history of Indian music. An ecstatic Hrithik Roshan talking to us said, "I gave something very simple a lot of love and it turned into gold. Alchemy of love! I'm very happy and proud. And very happy for Bhushan and the entire team for creating this history! It's nothing short of incredible.'' Bhushan, too, is happy with the success of the song. "We are super excited about 'Dheere dheere' having reached the 100 million views mark. It's the first time ever that a Hindi single has reached this number, which no Bollywood song also has been able to achieve. We, at T-Series, have pioneered many new trends in music, and I am happy that once again, we have created a whole new market for music in India," he says."

Well all we can say is that, Dheere Dheere has made a very jaldi jaldi place for singles in India.

Next !!! Radhika-Vinay to make 'Snow White'

Next !!! Radhika-Vinay to make 'Snow White'

As director duo Radhika Rao-Vinay Sapru's Sanam Teri Kasam's release is nearing, its revealed that their next is a musical, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. Based on the Grimm Brothers' classic fairy tale, their film will be set in the hinterlands of India, and against the backdrop of the brass band culture of the North.

As per reports, filmmaker Ashutosh Gowariker too has been planning a modern-day take on the popular fairy-tale. But while Vinay and Radhika's 'Snow White' will kick-start in March-April with a known star cast targeting a 2016 release, Gowariker's film is expected to roll towards the end of the year.

Radhika and Vinay are known for lending a larger-than-life fairy-tale like charm to their works. Be it their music videos, their film Lucky: No Time For Love starring Salman Khan and Sneha Ullal or their superhit songs including Dabangg's Tere Mast Mast Do Nain and more recently in Prem Ratan Dhan Paayo, they all have a fairy-tale like quality to them.

And that's also how, reveal the filmmakers, that they came up with an idea of an adaptation of 'Snow White'. While they admit that the original story has been tweaked a little, the essence and the metaphors of the familiar tale like the poisoned apple will be retained in their adaptation.

Vinay shares, "The hunter, who was supposed to kill Snow White in the forest, but lets her go, is merged with the character of the prince, to become an unlikely hero."

Radhika adds that their 'Snow White' is an Indian girl with almond-shaped eyes, somewhat dusky complexion and unlike the original, who was quiet and timid, is feisty and temperamental. "Also, the dwarfs are not physically small men but people who live on the fringes of society," says Radhika, pointing out that in the original Grimm's fairy tale that was how it was.

As for Gowariker making a film on Snow White too, they reason that even in Hollywood there have been instances of two studios coming up with a 'Snow White' around the same time. She says, "No one can lay claims to the story. Anyone can adapt it and every filmmaker will have a different interpretation. Ours is a musical set in the interiors. Maybe Ashu's film will come before us!"

Who made Rakul Preet Singh what she is?

Rakul Preet Singh, who worked with filmmaker Sukumar in the forthcoming Telugu release "Nannaku Prematho", said the experience helped her discover the actor within and perform beyond her own expectations.

"Working with Sukumar was amazing. He's someone who trusts his actors and allows them to experiment with dialogues and scenes. When you're working with him, you learn a lot subconsciously and that helped me in discovering the actor within," the former model told IANS.

Rakul believes she has given her career's most natural performance in the film.

"Sukumar comes from a very different school of working style. He never shoots with set dialogues and scenes. Most of it is improvised on the spot. He'd tell me, 'Rakul, if this is your character, how would you behave? Show me'," she said.

"Instead of making us act, he'd make us become the characters we play. He'd pick up these nuances from our day-to-day lives. He'd remind me of how I did something over breakfast in the morning and then ask me to include it in my performance," she added.

Paired with actor Jr. NTR for the first time, Rakul plays the daughter of a multi-billionaire in the film.

"It's a character I haven't played before, so there was no reference to it. The testing part was to look believable in the role, because unlike any other character, a billionaire's daughter carries herself very differently, be it the way she dresses or even walks," she said.

Talking about her experience of working with NTR, she said she experienced initial jitters.

"It's because I've only met him once before briefly. I didn't know him as a person or know his mood will be before the shoot. But slowly the ice was broken and I thoroughly enjoyed working with him," she said, and added he's extremely talented.

"He's someone who is brilliant in every sphere of cinema. When you're working with him, you're automatically pushed to the edge and that's very rewarding, because when you have a talented co-star, you want to perform even better," she said.

Rakul was also nervous to match steps with NTR, who is an exceptionally good dancer.

"Dancing with him was tough. He wouldn't rehearse and just takes a minute or two to do a step. Even though I've danced with actors, it wasn't the same with NTR," she said.

"Nannaku Prematho" is the first release of the year for Rakul, treats all her projects equally.

"Before the release of my film, small or big, the feeling is always the same," she said.

She is currently shooting for Allu Arjun-starrer Telugu actioner "Sarainodu". She will next team up with Nithiin for a yet-untitled project in the language.

Look who is Kriti's favourite cricketer?

Look who is Kriti's favourite cricketer?

Actress Kriti Sanon says that she follows cricket only during the World Cup and Sachin Tendulkar, Mahendra Singh Dhoni and Virat Kohli are her favourite cricketers.

Asked about her favourite cricketers at an event for the Celebrity Cricket League, Kriti was initially confused whether to name her colleagues from the industry participating in the league or actual cricketers. "Among Indian cricketers, of course Sachin Tendulkar, and M.S. Dhoni and Virat," she said.

Kriti was initially going to be a part of the biopic on Dhoni starring Sushant Singh Rajput but was later replaced by Kiara Advani. But she has been signed on to act opposite Sushant in another film directed by Dinesh Vijan.

And Virat is her contemporary Anushka Sharma's boyfriend. About the spotlight that an actress- cricketer affair has attracted since decades, Kriti said: "From whatever profession you belong, it's the same as the bonding between any girl and boy. That's what I feel."

"I'm not much involved in sports and I don't play either. But I've really liked whatever games I've gone and watched and I've really enjoyed that. I watch it (cricket) considerably during World Cup and follow it, but otherwise I can't manage much of time. But I think it's a game that everyone enjoys and especially if you're watching it live, it's more fun," she added.

Kriti will be the brand ambassador of the Mumbai Heroes franchise in the league which features the likes of Sohail Khan, Riteish Deshmukh, Bobby Deol, and Saqib Saleem among others this season.

Why did SRK refuse to talk about Ghulam Ali?

Why did SRK refuse to talk about Ghulam Ali?

Once bitten twice shy. Superstar Shah Rukh Khan on Monday refused to comment on Pakistani ghazal maestro Ghulam Ali's upcoming performance in the eastern metropolis because of how people react whenever he makes political or religious remarks.

"Because of the reaction I get whenever I make political or religious comments, I will not use this platform to say anything on this," Shah Rukh told the media here in response to a poser on Ghulam Ali's concert.

Shah Rukh's comments on the recent intolerance debate created quite a stir, but the 50-year-old actor maintained that he had not said anything which merited an apology.

However, he regretted that the box office collection of his film "Dilwale" was adversely affected due to protests by people who "misinterpreted" and "misconstrued" his comments on intolerance in the country.

Ghulam Ali will perform at the Netaji Indoor Stadium here on Tuesday.

After the cancellation of his concert in Mumbai due to threats by the Shiv Sena, Ghulam Ali in November had expressed his disappointment asserting "never to return to India".

Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee had offered Kolkata as a venue following the cancellation of the Mumbai concert in October.

Huma's loss is Kriti's gain

Huma's loss is Kriti's gain

Is Huma Qureshi's rumoured link-up with Sohail Khan the reason why Kriti Sanon replaced her as the face of his celebrity cricket franchise Mumbai Heroes in the Celebrity Cricket League?

Rumours of Huma Qureshi and Sohail Khan's romance have kept gossip mills buzzing for nearly a year. The two reportedly came close after she was signed on as the face of the actor-producer's franchise, Mumbai Heroes in the Celebrity Cricket League. But now we hear the curvy actress has been replaced by Kriti Sanon as the team's brand ambassador.

While his wife Seema recently went on record to say that she does not think there is anything special between Sohail and Huma, rumours insist that he has showered lavish gifts on the actress and the list includes a house and a car. Huma, on her part, also rubbished the link-up buzz and said that Sohail was like an elder brother to her.

Vikas Kapoor, a co-owner of Mumbai Heroes, says signing Kriti as the franchise's new face is purely a management call. "Every year, we bring a new brand ambassador on board, hence the change. For the first year, we had Sonakshi Sinha, followed by Kangana Ranaut, Chitrangada Singh, Lisa Haydon for the second, third and fourth seasons. Last year, it was Huma and now, we have Kriti," he says.

We, however, wonder if the annual tradition of appointing a new brand ambassador is mere coincidence!

Here's why Varun left an awards gala mid-way

Here's why Varun left an awards gala mid-way

Varun Dhawan let go of what could have been his big night for an unexpected act.

Moments after his high-octane stage performance at an awards gala on Friday, Varun Dhawan apparently walked out of the event, his face drained of colour. Reason? The actor had just been told about his make-up artist's son meeting with a fatal accident, say sources.

The youngster, who was nominated in the Best Actor (Male) category for 'Badlapur', did an aerial act with a human pyramid - a tribute to martyrs of the recent Pathankot terror attacks. But after receiving the sad news, he didn't wait for the Best Actor awards to be announced, although he had a good chance at winning it (the trophy was jointly given to Ranveer Singh for 'Bajirao Mastani' and Amitabh Bachchan for 'Piku').

Instead, he decided to be with the make-up artist in his hour of grief. "Varun treats his staff members like his own family. As soon as he heard about the death, he rushed to be by his make-up dada's side," says a source.

Varun Dhawan was not available for comment, but a source close to the actor confirmed the story.

Sonakshi yet to sign biopic on Dawood's sister Haseena

Sonakshi Sinha is yet to take a call on the biopic to be made on underworld don Dawood Ibrahim's sister Haseena, saying she was surprised with the film's content.

Gossip mills are abuzz that Sonakshi has been finalised to play the protagonist in the film, titled "Haseena - The Queen of Mumbai".

"We are just in talks for it. Till I sign on the dotted line I would prefer not to talk about it," Sonakshi told PTI. To be directed by Apoorva Lakhia, the film will depict the emotional saga of the underworld don's sister. "I wasn't surprised... I felt good that the makers felt I could carry off such a powerful role. I was surprised because of the content as I have never done that before," Sonakshi said.

Ranbir Kapoor and Katrina Kaif spotted driving around town in the dead of night.

After a brief lull, speculations of Ranbir Kapoor and Katrina Kaif parting ways surfaced yet again last week. A section of the media reported that the 'Tamasha' actor has moved out of their Bandra love nest, but our sources confirm that the couple is still together in the journey called life. They were, in fact, spotted vrooming around on a bike on late Friday night and the drive culminated at Krishna Raj bungalow, where Ranbir's parents, Rishi and Neetu, stay.

Says an eyewitness, "It was around 3 am when we saw them riding through Bandra streets. Ranbir was in control of his mean machine and Katrina, who was riding pillion, had clutched him tightly. They seemed to be enjoying the slight nip in the air."

However, soon after, they realised that they were being chased by their fans and the media, says the source, adding, "Ranbir instantly took a detour and they both landed at his parents' house in Pali Hill in the wee hours. They decided to stay there till morning."

Ranbir Kapoor and Katrina Kaif remained unavailable for comment.

Global laurels help introduce Indian cinema where needed: SRK

Superstar Shah Rukh Khan has no plans to foray into international cinema but appreciates actress Priyanka Chopra winning the People's Choice Awards as he believes such achievements help introduce Indian cinema "in places where it needs to be introduced".

The former Miss World won the Favourite Actress in a New TV series honour at the People's Choice Awards in Los Angeles for American TV show "Quantico".

"What happens with these achievements is Indian cinema is introduced in places where it needs to be introduced.

"It opens gates for more actors and actresses to look at," Shah Rukh told the media at the launch of Kansai Nerolac's coffee table book "Shades of Bengal".

Shah Rukh batted for promotion of Indian cinema in different territories not only as a business opportunity but also as a means to spread the country's culture.

However, he reiterated his decision on sticking to Hindi films at the moment.

"I am very happy making the films that I do. I have made it clear many times earlier, I don't think I will foray into it (international cinema)," he added.

Shocking Revelation: 16 mistakes of Mumbai police in Salman probe

Shocking Revelation: 16 mistakes of Mumbai police in Salman probe

Police top brass makes list of elementary errors the investigating officer made in the 2002 hit-and-run case against Salman Khan and circulates it to all police stations.

The Mumbai police top brass has issued a circular to all police stations highlighting the lapses and discrepancies in the 2002 hit-and-run case in which the Bombay High Court recently acquitted actor Salman Khan.

The circular, issued by the additional commissioner of police (crime) KMM Prasanna, mentions 16 among the several procedural lapses of the police's case the high court highlighted in its judgment.

The state had recently told the high court it would challenge the acquittal in the apex court. While the Bandra police are in the process of drafting the state's appeal, Prasanna has asked all police officers to learn from investigating officer's mistakes and ensure that such goof-ups do not occur again.

Officers from various police stations told mid-day that the unprecedented pointing out of lapses in a particular case has come as a surprise to many. Maharashtra has been plagued by one of the lowest conviction rates among all states in the country.

Sources said the goof-ups in the case were not isolated and that they were noticed in most hit-and-run cases. Taking Salman's case as the benchmark for shoddy investigation, officers have been asked to ensure they present watertight argument when cases come up for trial.

"Whatever anomalies the court pointed out, we have just passed on to our staff," said Prasanna. "That does not mean we accept them (points). We are only pointing it out to our men so that such things don't happen in the future."

The actor's acquittal in the high court came after a lower court had sentenced him to five years. The police came under tremendous criticism for leaving several key discrepancies in the investigation, which went against the prosecution.

What the circular states
Following are the 16 points mentioned in the circular:

1. Bills were collected from Rain Bar in Santacruz, where the prosecution had alleged that Salman Khan drank liquor, without due certification under Section 65 (B) of the Evidence Act.

2. Bills of JW Marriott Hotel and parking tag were seized by the police but were not shown in the panchanama, creating doubts about the evidence regarding where the actor went after leaving Rain Bar.

3. There are handwritten endorsements on the computer extracts in the bills of Rain Bar, but no evidence was collected as to who took the said endorsements, and how.

4. The actor was available from the morning of September 28, 2002, for medical test at the Bandra police station, but he was only taken to JJ Hospital in the afternoon for blood sample collection.

5. While the blood sample of the deceased, Narula, was taken at Bhabha Hospital, why was the actor's blood sample collected at JJ Hospital? No explanation was given.

6. Though the blood samples had come on September 28, 2002, to the Bandra police station from JJ Hospital, they were sent to the Forensic Laboratory in Kalina only on September 30, 2002. Till then, they were kept in the police station where, the court had said, they might have been either tampered with or not stored properly.

7. A chain of custody of blood samples was not properly established and because of the missing link, biological evidence was not trustworthy.

8. Statement of the constable who brought blood samples of accused from hospital to police station was not recorded and he was not examined.

9. Important anomaly - 6 ml of blood extracted from actors body in two containers, but FDL received only 4 ml of blood.

10. Receiving clerk of FSL not examined.

11. The investigating officer did not verify the medical papers while collecting them. Blood collection reports shows many discrepancies and defects, which were admitted.

12. No charge under Section 66 (i) (b) of the Bombay Prohibition Act was framed.

13. In two places, the FIR was altered, but no explanation was given.

14. Under Section 161, statements were not recorded of witness. Nobody says Salman was driving the vehicle.

15. The defence had said that the tyre had burst, which was the reason of the crash but the tyre was not sent to the forensic laboratory to deny their claims.

16. Actor Kamal Khan was not summoned to the trial when his address was available with cops though he could have been a great witness for the police.

Mandana Karimi, Raghav Juyal in film on social media titled ‘Viral’

Filmmaker Anand Kumar is likely to cast Iranian actress and ‘Bigg Boss 9’ contestant Mandana Karimi and dancer Raghav Juyal in his upcoming production ‘Viral’. The film is based on social media and is set to go on floors in February.
"Mandana is bold, beautiful, text-savvy and will connect with today's youngsters who are using Skype, Tinder, What sapp. Today, communication is all about sharing pictures and sending the same selfie to 10 people around you” Anand was quoted by a leading daily.
"I'm waiting for Mandana to finish her stint in the 'Bigg Boss' house before finalising the modalities and locking her dates," the ‘Zila Ghaziabad’ director added.
‘ABCD 2’ actor Raghav, known for his slow-motion dance moves will be cast opposite Mandana. Raghav’s character in the film is a novice to social communication and the story is about how all this affects him, Anand who is also the writer said.
Regarding the title of the movie, the writer-producer explains that character of the young man compiles all his experiences with social media into a book titled 'Viral'. Anand plans to shoot the film in Delhi, Mumbai and Goa.
'Viral' is quite an unusual script. In today's date and time where social media has taken over everything, we thought it would be interesting to make a film primarily focusing on this. I feel things have completely changed after social media hogged the limelight. Relationships have taken a back seat and now it's all about lust," Anand was quoted saying about the film.
He has joined hands with Endemol India for the project which will be directed by debutant Raaj Nadar. "It feels great to have tied up with Endemol India. We are looking at this film on a large scale. Looking at today's scenario, there is no way that we could make this film a conservative one. So yes, it's going to be a bold film,” the producer added.

Ghulam Ali performs in Kolkata, thanks Bengal CM

Pakistani ghazal maestro Ghulam Ali performed at Netaji Indoor Stadium in Kolkata in front of a packed audience. Ghulam Ali thanked West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee on Tuesday for inviting him and thereby ending his ‘udasi ka din’.
Last year in October, Ghulam Ali’s concerts in Mumbai and Pune faced huge protest from Shiv Sena and his tour was cancelled in Pune and Mumbai. Following the ban, Banerjee had then expressed her disgust and extended an invitation to Ali to perform in Kolkata.
Praising Mamata Banerjee, Ghulam Ali said, “Aj mera udasi ka din khatm hua hai. Mai Mamata Banerjee ko uske liye dhanyavad de raha hu”.
CM Mamata Banerjee used this occasion to preach ‘tolerance’. She quoted from Swami Vivekananda to prove her point of practising tolerance and asked, “How would we survive without tolerance?”
“An artist has no borders. Music has no borders. An artist belongs to the whole world,” she said, adding, “Kolkata loves you and would like to see you again.”
Thousands gathered at the Netaji Indoor stadium to enjoy Ghulam Ali’s song. "I am always happy whenever I go anywhere, but this time I am very happy. I used to visit Kolkata often but this year it seems I am coming after 50 years," Ali said.
Filmmaker Mahesh Bhatt, who also attended the event, thanked Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee for having the singer among us. "We had given up hope few months ago due to the kind of atmosphere that was created in Mumbai," Bhatt said.
