India will always remain a tolerant nation, veteran writer Javed Akhtar has said. "There are certain instances of intolerance in some sections of the society.

But India will always remain a tolerant society. "You can not term the entire nation intolerant," Akhtar said on the sidelines of the Royal Stag Barrel Select Perfect Strokes Season 2 in Pune on Friday.

Earlier, at an event in New Delhi on Monday, Bollywood star Aamir Khan said: "When I sit at home and talk to Kiran, for the first time she said, 'Should we move out of India?' Now that's a very disastrous and a big comment to make to me." The actor was widely criticised for his comments.

Mahika Sharma: Why there is rise of 'Intolerance' in India?

On the issue of growing sense of intolerance one of the young well known aspiring actress and social figure Mahika Sharma tries to convey her views.

Mahika shares, "In the last couple of months, many Indian litterateur, actors, retired judges and civil society members have expressed there concern on this growing sense of 'intolerance'. Even, the President himself have appealed for tolerance, which itself proves that there is a growing sense of intolerance in our country, else at least the President would not have spoke on it. We see that attempts made to create tension and divide Indians into two particular community miserably fired in the Country. Let it be the rhyming words like from Babri to Dadri or the application seeking restriction on the killing of religious animals. The people are seen succeeded to fall as a prey."

Concluding she adds, "If we think for a second, Dilwale and PRDP were publishing Srk and Salman. Very easily with a statement instead of a movie the third popular actor came in notice with her statement."

Here we see one more actress joins the debut.

Mr Perfectionist's New Shatru: Shotgun gets at loggerhead with Aamir

Bollywood actor-turned-BJP leader Shatrughan Sinha on Friday questioned actor-producer Aamir Khan over his views on rising tolerance in the country.

Shatrughan tweeted: "If there was intolerance in the country then how was Aamir's film PK a hit."

Shatrughan had earlier said that "PK", which questioned religious discord and people's blind faith in godmen, was a success, which shows there's tolerance in the country.

At an event in New Delhi on Monday, Aamir had said: "When I sit at home and talk to Kiran, for the first time she said, 'Should we move out of India?' Now that's a very disastrous and a big comment to make to me."

Aamir was widely criticised for his comments.

Shatrughan said he dismissed Aamir's views and that India is a peace loving country which treats all religions alike.

'Jai Gangaajal' is my way of protesting, says Prakash Jha

'Award Wapsi' is not his cup of tea, says filmmaker Prakash Jha, who claims his next movie "Jai Gangaajal" is his way of raising his voice against the situation in the country.

Asked about the 'Award Wapsi' campaign, Jha told IANS: "It is their (other artistes') way to protest. But I will not return my awards ever. I have ten National Awards, but did you even hear my voice during the 'Award Wapsi' movement by filmmakers?"

A host of filmmakers, including Dibakar Banerjee and Anand Patwardhan, returned various government awards and honours, as a mark of protest against lack of freedom of speech and expression in the country.

Jha, who is known for framing the political and social environment of the country into his films "Satyagraha", "Aarakshan" and "Gangaajal", said he turns to his camera to register his protest.

He said: "I have a different way of protesting. I have made 'Jai Gangaajal'. It will release on March 4 and the world will come to know."

With Priyanka Chopra in the lead role of a female police officer, "Jai Gangaajal" is a sequel of 2003 film "Gangaajal". The film aims to examine the society-police relationship on the big screen. In fact, Jha will also be seen playing the role of a police officer in his directorial.

Now Aparna Sen comes in Aamir's support

Now Aparna Sen comes in Aamir's support

National Award winning filmmaker Aparna Sen on Friday defended actor Aamir Khan saying his comment on intolerance is being "blown out of proportion" and that his concerns are justified as a citizen of the country.

"It's been blown out of proportion. As a citizen of the country who has given us 'Satyamev Jayate', Aamir has every right to be worried. Why are people blowing it out of proportion," Sen posed.

Earlier, superstar Shah Rukh Khan had ruffled feathers when he said that there is "extreme intolerance" in India. In response, a BJP MP compared him with Pakistani terrorist Hafiz Saeed, while another senior BJP leader called him a 'deshdrohi' (traitor), while Vishwa Hindu Parishad leader Sadhvi Prachi dubbed him a "Pakistani agent".

Asserting that "incidents of intolerance are going unpunished" in the country, Sen pointed out that Sadhvi Prachi's "divisive" comments went unrebuked.

"When people like Sadhvi make such remarks... that kind of thing is really divisive. But nobody chastised her, nobody took her to task as they took Aamir to task," Sen told the media here.

Response to 'Wazir' trailer makes Bejoy Nambiar 'ecstatic'

Response to 'Wazir' trailer makes Bejoy Nambiar 'ecstatic'

The positive response to the trailer of "Wazir" has given the film's director Bejoy Nambiar a reason to smile. Nambiar says he was nervous before coming out with the trailer, but the "overwhelming response" has left him "ecstatic".

"Today as films struggle to get attention it is heartening to see 'Wazir's trailer getting so much love. We released the first teaser exactly a year back. Expecting fatigue, we were nervous on the reception of the new trailer," Nambiar said in a statement.

"The overwhelming response just took us all by surprise. All of us including the promotional team had worked very hard on the trailer and I think I speak for everyone on my team, when I say, we are ecstatic and humbled by the appreciation," he added.

Featuring megastar Amitabh Bachchan and actors like Farhan Akhtar, John Abraham and Neil Nitin Mukesh, the trailer of "Wazir" is packed with action and it also gives a glimpse of the film's storyline.

The movie presents Farhan and John as ATS officers, while Big B plays the role of a physically disabled man with a sharp brain and Aditi is seen as Farhan's love interest.

The trailer, released on November 18, presents chess as an important symbolic game in the movie. With a romantic track in the background, the over two-minute long video shows some romantic moments shared by Farhan and Aditi in the movie.

Written by Abhijaat Joshi and Vindhu Vinod Chopra, "Wazir" is an action drama distributed by Reliance Entertainment, and is set to release on January 8 next year.

Varun reveals long kept secret of 'Dilwale'

Varun reveals long kept secret of 'Dilwale'

Varun Dhawan says Rohit Shetty's directorial "Dilwale" has all the ingredients of a commercial Bollywood potboiler, but it also has an intense and emotional element with twists and turns.

"There's a lot to 'Dilwale'. It's a very big film. I don't think the entire film can fit into one trailer, but there is a plot, a story which is totally logical. It has a lot of twists and turns," Varun said of the movie, which stars Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol as the lead pair.

"This film has romance, drama, action... there is everything for the viewer in this. But there's a sort of a twist in the second half which I'm looking forward for people to see. It's a very intense and emotional part," he added.

The film has Shetty's typical touch.

"Rohit Shetty makes films for the families. Nowadays there are very few directors who make films for the families. Honestly, I do films so that when people watch it in the theatre, they smile," Varun said.

The "Dilwale" trailer showcased a bit of what's in there in the movie, but not much is known about the plot of the film.

When asked about it, Varun said: "We've purposely not shown too much about it because we want the audience to come to the theatre and enjoy. If we show everything at the start, then what's the fun."

Releasing on December 18, the film also features Kriti Sanon.

Why Emraan feels that 'We're going back to dark ages'?

Why Emraan feels that 'We're going back to dark ages'?

Emraan Hashmi, who was once tagged as Bollywood's 'serial kisser', says censorship of films in India seems like it's "going to the dark ages".

"I feel that it's going back to the dark ages. We're not taking steps forward," Emraan said at the launch of a single "Main Rahoon Ya Na Rahoon", starring him and Esha Gupta.

"Our society is evolving, the kind of cinema we're exposed to these days...There are international films, Hollywood films on television... All that is progressing, but we're making sure that Bollywood regresses. I feel it's very detrimental for our industry.

"If you have a law for censorship, you should give an A-certificate to that kind of film (with any questionable content), but don't snip out things for the sake of snipping it out. I don't understand that logic," he added.

The "Murder" star responded to a question regarding the Central Board of Film Certification's decision to shorten a kissing scene in the James Bond film "Spectre".

Emraan said his much-anticipated biopic "Azhar" will also have kissing scenes, but he hopes it doesn't run into issues with the censor board.

"We'll get to know when my film eventually goes for censorship... there will obviously be a debate on it. But before that, numerous films are going to release. So hopefully, it (the policies) will be revised in the next couple of months and we get into some kind of a positive reform," he added.

John's 'Rocky Handsome' delayed again?

John's 'Rocky Handsome' delayed again?

Whispers in the industry corridors suggest that the release of John Abraham-starrer 'Rocky Handsome', which has been pushed ahead twice in the last two months, might be further delayed. We hear the makers have overshot their budget and have been unsuccessfully pursuing a few film studios to fund the film's promotional activities.

'Rocky Handsome', which features Shruti Haasan as John's leading lady, was initially scheduled to release in February this year. But it was postponed to October first week because the actor wanted his more commercially viable film 'Welcome Back' to reach the audience first (in September). However, the dates were again changed to February 2016 and then March 25 next year, reportedly because he did not want the audience to 'overdose' on his pairing with Shruti.

A source, however, claims the release date is repeatedly being pushed ahead because the makers are left with no money to market the film. "The production cost has exceeded the budget and they desperately need money to promote it on a large scale. They are hunting for a studio for help, but have not met with any success so far. The film is currently in the post-production stage and going through a lot of creative changes," adds the source.

The film's director, Nishikant Kamat rubbishes the rumour and says, "It's absolutely untrue. We are coming (to theatres) on March 25, 2016 for sure." A source close to the project explains, "The film is still being given finishing touches because we don't want to serve anything raw to the audience. And even if there are any financial issues, which I am unaware of, then also March 2016 is a long way off to get things sorted."

Kajol changing her ways for 'Dilwale'

Bollywood actress Kajol will be taking the small screen route to promote her forthcoming entertainer "Dilwale".

She will feature in a cameo on Star Plus' show "Saath Nibhaana Saathiya", and will be seen spreading love. Kajol's character will try to unite two lovers on the show.

Devoleena Bhattacharjee, who plays Gopi in the show, says she's a fan of "Dilwale" stars Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol ever since they featured together as Raj and Simran in the iconic film "Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge" (DDLJ).

"For me, SRK and Kajol have always meant Raj and Simran from 'DDLJ'. I have grown up watching the movie and have waited for my Raj all these years," Devoleena said in a statement.

Kajol will shoot with the cast of the show in the first week of December.

Directed by Rohit Shetty, "Dilwale" also stars actors Varun Dhawan and Kriti Sanon. The film is slated to hit the theatres on December 18.

Rajkumar Hirani comes for Aamir's rescue

Rajkumar Hirani comes for Aamir's rescue

Director Rajkumar Hirani says that actor Aamir Khan's controversial statements were "innocent" and that the hype created because of it should've been ignored.

"If you take the answer what he said, he's clearly said, 'I feel distressed, I feel sad that my wife once said this to me.' To me, it was a very innocent answer," said Hirani at a sports event along with veteran writer Javed Akhtar. "Perhaps he shared something from his family conversations with the public. And according to me, that (hype) should've been ignored. But the manner in which people have attacked him, I see a bit of intolerance in that, in certain sections," he added.

Hirani also said that people need to become "a bit more tolerant".

"I feel we need to pick up on positive things and talk about those things, we all need to be careful," he added.

The row began at the Ramnath Goenka Excellence in Journalism Awards where numerous other issues were discussed but Aamir's statement that his wife suggested they leave the country was picked up everywhere, and was slammed and mocked at. "If you analyse that interview, it's not that Aamir Khan called for a press conference and said, 'this is what I feel'. He was called for an award function. He was asked on various topics and one of the questions happened to be this (on intolerance)," Hirani said.

The Punjab unit of the Shiv Sena had offered Rs. 1 lakh to anyone who slapped Aamir, while another of its leaders said that the 'pk' actor should go to Pakistan, while members of the Hindu Sena even booked tickets for Aamir and his family for Pakistan.

Aamir's religion also came into the picture among numerous negative remarks on the issue.

"And this fact was connected to the incident that he is a Muslim. This thought had never even come in our minds. I've celebrated every Diwali at Aamir's house. Today, I'm sitting with Javed sahab, but this thought that a Hindu and Muslim are sitting together didn't come to our minds," Hirani said.

"This thought should be the last thought. The manner in which this is spreading, I feel there is a certain divide that's been created," he added.

Hirani has delivered two blockbusters, '3 Idiots' and 'pk' with Aamir.

Celebrity couples – estranged but not divorced

The glitzy and glamorous lives of Bollywood celebrities are often the object of fascination for common people, but even their lives are not all hunky dory, as the numerous failed celebrity marriages reveal. After being head-over-heels in love, several couples tied the celestial knot, only to part ways later. While many terminated their marriage legally by obtaining divorce, some remain estranged for different reasons.
Here are five of the many celebrity couples who have been living separately, but are not yet divorced.
Karisma Kapoor and Sunjay Kapur:
The celebrity couple is currently in news with regard to their impending divorce, the petition for which they have reportedly withdrawn. Trouble started brewing and there were rumours of their split up after the birth of their daughter Samaira in 2005, but the couple reconciled and went on to have a second child - son Kiaan in 2010. But soon, Karishma parted ways and came to live with her mother in Mumbai, along with her children. The couple have been married for 12 years and although they have filed for divorce, their marriage is yet to be annulled.
Pulkit Samrat and Shweta Rohira
Bollywood actor Pulkit Samrat and ‘rakhi’ sister of superstar Salman Khan had been dating for years before formalising their wedding. The young couple tied the knot with the blessings of both the families in November last year, in presence of Salman Khan, Sohail Khan and Arbaaz Khan among others. They were even reported to have secretly got married in 2010. Rumours about a rough whether in their paradise was doing the rounds for some time, but it was only earlier this month that Shweta confirmed that she and Pulkit are living separately in different cities – Mumbai and Delhi respectively.
Ranvir Shorey and Konkona Sen Sharma
Offbeat Bollywood actors Ranvir Shorey and Konkona Sen Sharma came closer and fell in love during the filming of their 2006 movie ‘Mixed Doubles’. They started to live-in together and had been very secretive about their relationship. They finally got married in 2010 in a close-knit ceremony. Within one month the news of Konkona being pregnant started doing the rounds and the couple welcomed their son in March, 2011. Rumours about their marital discord were rife in 2013 and it was reported that the couple was staying apart. Finally is September this year, both Konkona and Ranvir took to their respective Twitter accounts and announced their split stating that they will remain friends and co-parent their son four-year-old son Haroon.
Mahima Chaudhary and Bobby Mukherjee
Bollywood actress Mahima Chaudhary married architect Bobby Mukherjee, a divorcee, in 2006 in a secret ceremony. She announced her marriage only when she was expecting her child – a daughter who the couple named Aryana. Rumours of stress in their relationship emerged in 2008 when Bobby was embroiled in a bitter custody battle with his ex-wife. He had to travel extensively during which Mahima would stay with her parents. Apparently, the long-distance relationship took a toll on their marriage and Mahima left Bobby’s Bandra house to move with her parents in Lokhandwala, and living separately since. After a long-drawn legal battle and obstacles, Azhar and Sangeeta tied the knot in 1996. Theirs too wasn’t a ‘happily-ever-after’ life as the couple parted ways in 2010 following Azhar’s alleged link up with badminton player Jwala Gutta. However, they have not divorced and Sangeeta was also seen campaigning with Azhar during the 2014 general elections.

A source connected to the couple says they have decided things would be better if they increase their personal space by living under separate roofs. However, another source close to Kylie claims that they did not break up, but the blow-up has made them rethink their relationship.

The petition for divorce between actress Karisma Kapoor and her husband Sunjay Kapur on grounds of mutual consent has been disposed of.

The family court judge, I J Nanda, disposed of the petition on Friday, after the couple had filed applications to withdraw their consent to it. Asked if they will stay together henceforth, Sunjay’s lawyer Narayan Suvarna said, “That is up to my client, I have no idea about it.”

What next?

Either party can now file a fresh divorce case on other grounds available with them. Karisma’s lawyer Kranti Sathe said, “The petition for divorce on the grounds of mutual consent stands disposed as it was withdrawn by both the parties. Now there is nothing in court. We had filed the application to withdraw her consent to the petition because there was absolutely no intention or desire to fulfill any of the financial obligations. They were only for the children and he chose not to do it.”
As per the court’s orders, Sunjay was supposed to meet certain financial commitments within a period of six months from the time of signing the consent papers. However, he allegedly took no initiative.
Sunjay’s lawyer Suvarna added, “The court has accepted the applications to withdraw the consent and has disposed of the matter as there was no compliance from both the sides. The divorce has not been granted and so they will be husband and wife.” The couple got married in 2003 and have two children, daughter Samaira and son Kiaan Raj.

Nidhi Dutta launches production house after her father JP Dutta's name

The last film under JP Dutta’s production banner, JP Films, hit theatres nearly a decade ago — Umrao Jaan in 2006 — but his daughter, Nidhi, wants him back in the game. She has launched a production house called JP Genes that will aim at nurturing and promoting young talented filmmakers.

A source says, “Nidhi has already started reading scripts and will be announcing a new film early next year. Although she is heading the production house, she wants her father to be actively involved in it.” Interestingly, Nidhi’s Bollywood debut with Jee Bharke Jee Le will also be released early next under JP Genes.
The veteran filmmaker will, however, continue with his directorial pursuits for his own banner.
Nidhi confirms the story and says, “The research work and permission required to make the kind of films he makes takes a lot of time, so there is a huge gap between his films’ releases. Keeping that in mind, we wanted to expand our company and that’s when I thought of coming up with JP Genes. We will promote young talent. I have been getting scripts and will soon announce films.”

Director alienates film's producers with his constant angry outbursts

This director, who excels in the romance genre, seems prone to bursts of anger these days. Recently, he had a heated exchange with the producers of his film and a witness to the showdown says that arguments between them have taken place on more occasions than one.

A source says, “The producers, one of whom is an industry senior, wasn’t happy with the way the film shaped up and suggested a few changes, but the director did not pay heed. That led to a big fight between them and the producers have been maintaining a distance from all promotional activities.”
The producers have now made up their mind to never collaborate with the man in question. “The director does not like any interference in his work and he lost his cool when bombarded with unsolicited suggestions relating to the creative aspect. We know that he is a no-nonsense person who likes to stick to his own vision, but he is having frequent mood swings of late,” adds a source close to the film.

John Abraham starrer 'Rocky Handsome' delayed again?

Whispers in the industry corridors suggest that the release of John Abraham-starrer 'Rocky Handsome', which has been pushed ahead twice in the last two months, might be further delayed. We hear the makers have overshot their budget and have been unsuccessfully pursuing a few film studios to fund the film’s promotional activities.

John Abraham and Nishikant Kamat

'Rocky Handsome', which features Shruti Haasan as John’s leading lady, was initially scheduled to release in February this year. But it was postponed to October first week because the actor wanted his more commercially viable film 'Welcome Back' to reach the audience first (in September). However, the dates were again changed to February 2016 and then March 25 next year, reportedly because he did not want the audience to ‘overdose’ on his pairing with Shruti.
A source, however, claims the release date is repeatedly being pushed ahead because the makers are left with no money to market the film. “The production cost has exceeded the budget and they desperately need money to promote it on a large scale. They are hunting for a studio for help, but have not met with any success so far. The film is currently in the post-production stage and going through a lot of creative changes,” adds the source.

The film’s director, Nishikant Kamat rubbishes the rumour and says, “It’s absolutely untrue. We are coming (to theatres) on March 25, 2016 for sure.” A source close to the project explains, “The film is still being given finishing touches because we don’t want to serve anything raw to the audience. And even if there are any financial issues, which I am unaware of, then also March 2016 is a long way off to get things sorted.”

Why so much hullabaloo over Aamir statement, asks Nagma

Vadodara: Actress and Congress member Nagma today came out in support of Aamir Khan over his comments on "growing intolerance" and said the superstar never thought of leaving India, as she slammed BJP leaders like Yogi Adityanath over their remarks.

She wondered why so much hullabaloo has been created over his statement on "intolerance" when similar sentiments have been expressed by some other prominent personalties. Asked by reporters to comment on Khan's statement, the filmstar-politician shot back "kaun sa pahad toot gaya hai desh par (what big trouble his statement has caused)?"
The 40-year-old "Baaghi" actress criticised BJP leaders like Yogi Adityanath for targeting Khan. "When did Aamir say he wants to leave the country? There is a false propaganda against him. He never said he wants to leave India."
The 50-year-old actor has featured in advertisements for the Government of India and does not belong to any political party, she said. The General Secretary of All-India Mahila Congress had come to Jambusar town in Bharuch district to campaign for party candidates contesting the taluka panchayat polls slated for November 29.
President Pranab Mukherjee, RBI Governor Raghuram Rajan and Infosys co-founder NR Narayana Murthy, among others, have also spoken on the issue of intolerance, she said. The Congress politician took potshots at Prime Minister Narendra Modi over his frequent foreign visits, saying "he should be issued an NRI (Non-Resident Indian) passport".
Nagma alleged law and order situation is deteriorating in BJP-ruled Gujarat, where she claimed attacks on women are increasing. She criticised the Gujarat government for extending soft loan at 0.1 per cent interest to Tata Motors for their Nano car plant in Sanand near Ahmedabad.
