Kareena Kapoor Khan and Saif Ali Khan to miss charity gala for Prince William and Kate Middleton

Saif Ali Khan and Kareena Kapoor Khan have apparently declined an invitation to a charity gala that's being hosted in Prince William and Kate Middleton's honour
A clutch of Bollywood stars are set for a date with British royals Prince William and Kate Middleton on April 10, but if sources are to be believed, Saif Ali Khan and Kareena Kapoor Khan will be giving the charity gala a miss.

Preparations for the special dinner at a Bandra five-star are in full swing and invitations to A-listers are said to have been sent out already. Shah Rukh Khan, Sonam Kapoor, Ranveer Singh and Arjun Kapoor are expected to be part of the glitzy night, but what will keep the couple from dining with royalty? Sources claim the actor is busy shooting for Vishal Bhardwaj's Rangoon and his Begum isn't keen to attend the special event without him.

"Kareena and Saif regularly travel to London and share a special bond with the city. The authorities hosting the event are aware of it and so, wanted the couple to be a part of the event. But, they have declined the invitation," informs a source. The British High Commission is reportedly hosting the special gala dinner and charity event in association with the British Asian Trust. The aim is to raise funds for three non-government charitable organisations.

"Kareena has confided in her friends that since Saif is shooting and won't be able to make it to the royal reception, she also does not want to attend it. Despite being approached by the authorities repeatedly, she does not want to go alone," adds the source.
However, the actress' spokesperson says, "Kareena is shooting for an ad in Bangkok and so, can't make it. Saif is shooting for Rangoon." Interestingly, when we contacted Saif, he told us he won't be shooting that day. "But I have other commitments," he said.

Harshvardhan is all set to take his first steps in the tinsel town as he makes his acting debut with "Mirziya".
His doting sister Sonam, flying high on the success of "Neerja", had unveiled Harshvardhan's first look from the film on twitter.
When asked if he thinks Harshvardhan looks like him, Anil said, "Don't say that (he looks like me). He doesn't like it. He is not like me at all. He is like his mom".
Interjecting him, Sonam said, "Harsh is very scary".
Anil said in a lighter vein, "We are really scared of him (Harshvardhan). We have to ask him if it is alright that we talk about him".
"Mirziya" also marks the debut of Saiyami Kher, granddaughter of yesteryear actress Usha Kiran and niece of Tanvi Azmi.
Directed by Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra, the film is inspired by the love tale of Sahiban and Mirza and is described as a contemporary adaptation.
The film is scheduled to hit the screens on October 7 this year.

Ajay Devgn to have a quiet 47th birthday with family

Ajay Devgn turns 47 today. As usual, he is not in the party mode. He will be having a quiet celebration at home with his near and dear ones.

Since the star has just returned from a three-month overseas shoot schedule of his directorial, Shivaay, he prefers to stay put at home.
It is well known how Ajay avoids cutting his birthday cake and makes someone else cut it on his behalf — on the set it is a unit hand and at home, it is his kids.
He was just awarded a Padma Shri, so it could have been a double celebration, but he’s going to pass it up. He’d rather start prepping for the next shooting stint of Shivaay at Film City later this month.

Farida Jalal on her short film: It got over in a jiffy

Farida Jalal on having it short and quick, and longing for more. Here's what 'it' was
Farrida Jalal has always been vocal about scripts not being written for senior actors like her and perhaps, that's what spurred her to explore a strange territory — the digital medium. The veteran actress recently did a nine-minute film, 'Scandal Point', as part of Yash Raj's short film anthology, 'Love Shots'.

"I have been in the industry for 45 years and was keen to do something novel. Everything today is online, so I thought why not give it a try? But the film is really short. Before I knew it, it was over. I watched it twice back-to-back and still longed for more. It got over in a jiffy," she says.

With Kulbhushan Kharbanda as her co-star, Scandal Point revolves around an aged couple reliving their romantic hideouts.
All these years, Jalal was used to a set-up where they had to first establish the character and then get on with the scenes, so the short film was a bit of a strange experience for her, she admits.
Now that she has got a taste of it, would she like to be part of more such projects? "My son is teaching me to be net savvy. I don't have an email account, but I am active on WhatsApp. It will take me some time to learn new technology," she says, sounding determined.
Last seen in the TV show Satrangi Sasural, Jalal's next project is Geetanjali Sinha's Karma Cafe. "There is not much for people my age. They are signed as mothers, but of stars. They have nothing much to do in their presence," she adds.

Aamir Khan: Family was disturbed with criticism on intolerance row

Superstar Aamir Khan says his wife and other family members were deeply disturbed when he faced backlash over his comments on intolerance.
Aamir Khan

The "pk" actor had last year faced flak for his statement on growing "intolerance" in the country.
Asked if his comment was blown out of proportion, Aamir said, "Certainly, what I said was misrepresented. A lot of media misrepresented what I said and as a result a lot of people got upset with me, and rightly so because what was represented was not what I was saying. I understand that, these are the things you have to deal with in public life."
Aamir said his family and close friends got upset when he was "attacked" over his comments for "no reason."
"They get badly affected. My wife, mother, kids, sisters and brothers get upset. Even people who love me, close to me, would get upset if I am being misunderstood, or being attacked for no reasons so obviously those close to me would not like it."
The 51-year-old-actor was speaking at Lokmat Group's "Maharashtrian of the Year" Award ceremony here this evening.
The "3 Idiots" star, however, said there were a lot of people who came out in support of him during the controversy.
"There were a lot of people who supported me, not just people who know me intimately, but wherever people met me they came forward to tell me that they support me."
Over the years the actor has played various roles, that of a policeman, and even an alien and will be next seen as a wrestler in his upcoming movie "Dangal".
Asked is there a reason he still has not played the part of a politician?, Aamir said, "There is no specific reason for that. If a good script comes where I need to play a politician I'll do it."
Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, who was also present at the event, joked, "That is because he works as a hero but in every movie the politician is always the villain."
To which, Aamir added, "We need to change that then..."

Ranveer 'Bajirao' Singh gets 'Maharashtrian Of the Year' award

Actor Ranveer Singh was today conferred with 'Maharashtrian of the Year' honour, while queen of melody Asha Bhosle was presented Lifetime Achievement Award at an event in Mumbai.

The award, constituted by Lokmat Group, was bestowed on the 30-year-old Bollywood star by Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis. Superstar Aamir Khan was guest of honour at the event.
In 2015, Ranveer won acclaim for his portrayal of celebrated Maratha warrior Peshwa Bajirao in Sanjay Leela Bhansali's "Bajirao Mastani".
On the occasion, Ranveer joked this was the first time he met Aamir at an award function (he is known to shun such events) and said he gave his best to portray the iconic character on screen.
"This is the first award function where I met Aamir Khan... Thank you for this honour. When Sanjay Leela Bhansali offered me 'Bajirao Mastani', I understood that I had to essay the life of such a great warrior, I said to myself that I will perform from my heart and soul to try and make a significant mark," Ranveer said.
"Bajirao Mastani gave me a sense of belonging. When I used to tell my Maharashtrian friends about the role there was an immense sense of pride they had."
The "Band Baaja Baarat" actor then danced with Aamir to the tunes of his song "Malhari" from "Bajirao Mastani".
Asha was given the Lifetime Achievement Award at the event. The 82-year-old legendary singer said she was very proud to receive the honour.
"This is the most important award for me. I've been singing for years and not only Maharashtrian but people across the country have loved me. I feel grateful receiving this honour at the hands of our Chief Minister."
Cinematic legends like Amitabh Bachchan and Dilip Kumar have been honoured with this award in the past.
The jury members to choose the awardee for this year included former Union Ministers Sushil Kumar Shinde and Praful Patel, eminent lawyer Ujjwal Nikam, social activist Medha Patkar, businessman Harsh Goenka and filmmaker Madhur Bhandarkar, among others.
