Shot in the dark: This TV actor physically abused his actress-wife

Reports about this telly couple's troubled marriage have been doing the rounds since long, but this one comes as a shocker. The wife is known to be nauseatingly possessive, given her man's playboy reputation. Recently, they had gone abroad for a TV show shoot, but the bickering hardly stopped. And then, shockingly, it took the form of physical abuse.

A source says, "While in the foreign country, the actor would mingle with women, who were part of the show, while ignoring his better half. After bouts of argument, he dragged his wife to their room and beat her up."

This was not the first time that the actor got violent with his wife, reveals a friend of the couple. "Due to constant tension in their relationship, they wanted to part ways two years ago, but then decided to give each other another chance. The wife has always claimed that there is no trouble in paradise, but after this incident, we are not sure if she would remain silent and bear it all," adds the friend.

Wonderful: Farhan on recording 'Atrangi yaari'

Wonderful: Farhan on recording 'Atrangi yaari'

Actor-filmmaker Farhan Akhtar says it was a 'wonderful' experience recording a duet titled 'Atrangi yaari' hinging on the bond of friendship with his 'Wazir' co-star Amitabh Bachchan.

Farhan along with Big B recorded the track about unusual friendships here last week.

It is the first time that the Bollywood stars, known for musical prowess as well, have given their voice for a song together. The track has been composed by Rochak Kohli and penned by Gurpreet Saini and Deepak Ramola.

"Performing a song for such a film ('Wazir'), with such wonderful people... which has been composed beautifully by Rochak has been fun and it feels wonderful," Farhan said in a statement.

In some of the photographs that were shared by Amitabh last week, the duo can be seen having fun while recording the track. Farhan is also seen holding a guitar while singing.

"Atrangi yaari", which forms the crux of the Bejoy Nambiar directorial, depicts the unusual friendship between the characters played by Amitabh and Farhan.

Explaining the origin of the song, Vidhu Vinod Chopra, who has produced the film, shared that "I was searching for a song since the last six months. I heard around 100 to 200 songs and I had almost given up before I came across this song."

Big B flew down from Kolkata to record the song. He said: "I was shooting in Kolkata at night, he (Chopra) called me and said this is the song, you have to sing it, we have to shoot this and this has to happen very soon. So, here I am."

'Wazir' will present Farhan as an ATS officer, while Big B will be seen essaying the role of a physically disabled man with a sharp brain. Aditi Rao Hydari will be seen as Farhan's love interest.

The film will release on January 8 next year.

'Baazigar' sowed seeds of acting in my brain: Varun Sharma

Actor Varun Sharma, who shares screen space with Shah Rukh Khan in "Dilwale", says the superstar's 1993 blockbuster "Baazigar" sowed the seeds of acting in him.

"The seed of acting got into me because of 'Baazigar'. My mother knows that very well. She was emotional when she got to know that I am sharing screen space with the man who inspires me (Shah Rukh) and whom I respect as an idol. It's a great feeling for any mother," Varun told IANS.

The "Fukrey" actor said he made his mother proud after landing the role in "Dilwale".

"When I got the confirmation, I told her that I got an offer working in Rohit Shetty's film along with Shah Rukh Khan, Kajol and Varun Dhawan. And there was a two-minute silence. I knew there were so many things going on in her mind that time. I took her blessings. I think I made her a little bit proud," he added.

The 24-year-old, whose character Chucha in "Fukrey" garnered popularity among cinegoers, says wherever he goes, people still call him by that name.

"My focus is always on making an impression on the audience's mind in whatever role I do. It satisfies both me as an actor and those who are watching me as well," he said.

"Chucha in 'Fukrey' made such a mark on people's minds that even now when I go out they call me first by that name then greet me as Varun. For any actor to be called by his character name is his biggest victory. And now I hope it changes with 'Dilwale'," he added.

Directed by Rohit Shetty "Dilwale" also stars Kajol, Varun Dhawan, Kriti Sanon, Boman Irani, Johnny Lever among others.

The film is releasing on December 18.

Here's why SRK and Salman Khan won't be doing any film together

Here's why SRK and Salman Khan won't be doing any film together

Superstar Shah Rukh Khan has ruled out the possibility of reuniting with Salman Khan on the silver screen again as he feels both the actors have a busy work schedule. Shah Rukh, who will be making his debut appearance on Salman-hosted "Bigg Boss 9" this weekend to promote "Dilwale", said they have no plans of working together in near future.

"There is no such plan of working in a film together. If you just look at our calendars, our spaces are full. Personally, my calendar is full. I am sure Salman is also busy. He is shooting for 'Sultan' right now and he told me about his another film," Shah Rukh told PTI.

The actors, who are back to being friends after a period of enmity, first worked together in the Rakesh Roshan-directed revenge drama "Karan Arjun" followed by love story "Hum Tumhare Hain Sanam". Salman also had a guest role in "Kuch Kuch Hota Hai".

Asked whether it would be too expensive to cast them together in a film considering they are the highest paid actors of Bollywood, Shah Rukh quipped, "I am cheap and sweet. I don't know about Salman's salary."

The actor, 50, is looking forward to the release of "Dilwale", which will see him reuniting with friend Kajol after a gap of five years.

Kajol had recently said that SRK and her husband Ajay Devgn are not friends despite she being the common link between them but Shah Rukh disagreed with her.

"We don't sit down and chat. Ajay is a quiet guy and so am I in real life. I may come out as more talkative in public. We are friends. If I have any issue, I can pick up the phone at 3am and call Ajay and tell him 'Listen, I need Kajol to come and do this for me' and he will drive her."

"We are such kind of friends. It happens because we have space. We are married and have kids and somewhere we have parallel life."

Review: 'Dilwale' fails to re-create DDLJ magic

Review: 'Dilwale' fails to re-create DDLJ magic

Cast: Shah Rukh Khan, Kajol, Varun Dhawan, Kriti Sanon and Varun Sharma

Director: Rohit Shetty

Rating: **1/2

"Dilwale", with Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol in the lead, after a long gap, seems reason enough to go and watch this film. With the two legendary Dilwalas, one expects the same magic from this duo on screen. And they don't disappoint, albeit in a smaller segment.

Raj (Shah Rukh Khan) aka Kali lives a peaceful life with his younger brother Vir (Varun Dhawan) on whom he dotes. Together, they run a garage where they modify and repair cars, giving them a makeover. His two friends, Anwar (Pankaj Tripathi) and Shakti (Mukesh Tiwari) are an intrinsic part of his life and are privy to his dubious past of 15 years ago, which he has buried and about which no one else knows.

With King Khan and director Rohit Shetty, one expects mega entertainment. "Dilwale" is a formulaic film, replete with all the ingredients of a typical Rohit Shetty film - Goa, cars overturning, fast-paced action and bright candy coloured sets. But the film lacks soul and freshness.

The story and setting transport you back to the 1990s and the lack of novelty and newness in the script and treatment, is what lets you down. The dialogues abounding in pun, which are supposed to be funny, are really not so. A few situational comedy scenes evoke laughter, but don't really entertain or amuse you for too long.

Shah Rukh lights up the screen with this presence undoubtedly and is the rasion d'etre to watch the film, but the script does not back him enough. He fights, falls in love, indulges in action, romances his lady love, but one has seen him do all this so many times before. The fault lies with the writing and his characterisation. He delivers sincerely, what is expected of him.

Kajol too is competent as always, but as Meera - Khan's love interest, she seems to be stuck somewhere in the 1990s as her character lacks lustre. She looks radiant, performs competently and matches Shah Rukh in histrionics.

Varun as Vir, exudes energy, but overacts in several scenes. He is the stereotypical younger brother in Hindi films and makes no attempt to move away from that and offer some new dimension to his character.

Kriti Sanon as Ishita, Vir's love interest, has a strong screen presence and is natural even if she is meant to be just a bit more than eye candy.

Varun Sharma as Siddhu, Vir's buddy is a disappointment, compared to his performance in his debut film. Johnny Lever as Mani, entertains a fair amount in his usual inimitable style. Sanjay Mishra as Oscar, makes a mark as always, as he offers something new each time on screen. Boman Irani as King, takes on a comic avatar, but seems a wee bit stereotyped. Vinod Khanna as a Bulgaria-based Don Randhir Bakshi, is wasted, as he has limited screen time.

The music, apart from "Gerua", which is beautifully picturised, is disappointing. The mindless action scenes are expectedly flawlessly executed, but oft seen.

The cinematographer elevates the viewing experience, as he captures Bulgaria and all other locales beautifully, transporting you there.

"Dilwale" is strictly for Shah Rukh Khan's fans. They are bound to overlook everything else.

Review: 'Bajirao Mastani' - A masterpiece which will leave you mesmerized

Review: 'Bajirao Mastani' - A masterpiece which will leave you mesmerized

Cast: Ranveer Singh, Deepika Padukone, Priyanka Chopra, and Mahesh Manjrekar

Director: Sanjay Leela Bhansali

Rating: ***1/2

Sanjay Leela Bhansali's "Bajirao Mastani", based on the novel "Rau" authored by N.S. Inamdar, is a fictionalised romance drama that encapsulates the 20 year reign of the Maratha warrior Bajirao and his relationship with his second wife Mastani.

The film begins with Bajirao's appointment as Peshwa in the court of Chhattrapati Shahu in Satara. The narration thereafter leads you into his expeditions, his encounter with Mastani and their subsequent, intense romance.

Mounted on a magnificent scale with well-etched characters, resplendent sets and period costumes, the director, intricately and flawlessly, transports you to the era of the Peshwas, circa 1720-1740.

What makes the film stand out is Bhansali's direction. He astutely manages to guide his team to deliver the best. Be it in performances, music, visuals or action, his inimitable stamp is written over every frame of the film.

Prakash Kapadia's screenplay is water-tight and engaging, keeping you riveted to the screen for over 2 hours. His dialogues are colloquial, yet, power-packed. There is no iota of excess, and embellished with the right amount of Marathi words, these sharp and taut dialogues are full of wit, messages and equally hard-hitting.

The performances by the characters are captivating. Bajirao Mastani is Ranveer Singh's canvas.

With his well-chiselled physique, bald pate with a single lock of hair, he slips into Bajirao's hide perfectly. His energy and intensity on screen is palpable.

You empathise with him when he is honest with both his wives and you root for him when he rebels against his widowed mother Radhabai and the high priest.

And most of all, your heart beats for him when he pines for Mastani. The last scene of the film is powerful and Ranveer's presence and competence, takes it a rung higher.

Deepika Padukone as the defiant and confident warrior Mastani, madly in love with Bajirao, is effortlessly convincing. Her performance resonates with the right attitude, both as a warrior and as Bajirao's love interest, making her stand out.

Priyanka Chopra in her navaris -- the nine yard saris, as the obviously hurt Kashibai -- Bajirao's first wife, though a bit dramatic, is herself, glossed-up and pretentious. But nevertheless, she essays her role ably.

Tanvi Azmi as the obtrusive Radhabai is remarkable, with the right amount of drama and restraint in her performance.

The others in supporting roles, too, are perfectly handpicked and deliver outstanding performances.

Visually, the film is mesmerising. The computer generated images seamlessly interlace cinematographer Sudeep Chatterjee's frames.

With his wide angle shots, he not only captures the locales, but also the intricate details of the tale, to perfection. His atmospheric lighting lends authenticity to the period depicted in the film. He has also managed to portray the battle scenes brilliantly, making it look natural and real.

Bhansali's music, with its theatrical background score and soulful songs, integrates well with the narration. The well-choreographed dance sequences are a treat to watch, though the song "Pinga" seems a bit forced and is reminiscent of his "Dola re Dola" in Devdas.

The action sequences by Shyam Kaushal are easily one of the highlights of the film.

Overall, "Bajirao Mastani" is a spectacular masterpiece which will stay with you much after you leave the cinema hall.

Sonam gets emotional at 'Neerja' trailer launch

Actress Sonam Kapoor got emotional discussing her experiences of portraying the character of valiant flight attendant Neerja Bhanot at the trailer launch of her film "Neerja".

Sonam's eyes got moist while answering certain questions from the media and she struggled to control her emotions.

"Anything that is emotionally challenging kind of makes you grow as a human being. You learn how to be better through everything especially if something pushes you beyond a certain limit. Anything that Neerja Bhanot has brought into my life is being positive, it's not strained me, it's made me stronger," she said.

Bhanot was awarded the Ashok Chakra for saving 359 lives from the hijacked Pan Am Flight 73 in Karachi in 1986, though at the cost of her own life.

Sonam was a bit skeptical as to whether she will be able to portray such strong character as she is just an ordinary girl. But Shanti Sivaram Maini, her agent and co-producer of the film, who came to her with the story, assured her that Bhanot was also an ordinary girl before her feat.

"And after that I was like, I better give this like 3000 percent. Not because of anything but because you owe it to her and her memory. And after I met her family, I owe it to her family, to be as honest as possible and do my very best," said Sonam.

She feels Bhanot's attachment to her family and her principles were aspects which she sees as common to her.

"Neerja" has been directed by Ram Madhvani and also stars Shabana Azmi.

Born in a family full of film stars, I never felt like taking it (acting) up as a career. I was seeing it so closely; it was everyday life for me. I was never fascinated with cinema and wanted to explore other things. It is quite possible for me to launch a fashion line of my own. I have studied fashion, have the passion for it and would love to come up with a range of my own," said Sonakshi on Born Stylish.

The 'Tevar' girl had designed her own costume for the 'Go, Go, Govinda' item song in the 2012 film 'Oh My God'. She even sketched the kind of accessories she wanted to team with the Indo-Western costume.

Other Bollywood faces who have their own clothing label include Salman Khan (Being Human), Madhuri Dixit (Madz), Hrithik Roshan (HRX) and Sonam and Rhea Kapoor (Rheson).

Is Neil Nitin Mukesh dating Sasha Agha?

Is Neil Nitin Mukesh dating Sasha Agha?

If the industry buzz is to be believed, Neil Nitin Mukesh and Sasha Agha are the latest 'special friends' in B-Town. Music, apparently, was what brought them close. When DJ Afrojack was in Mumbai last month, Neil had hosted a party for him and Sasha was among the few invitees.

Says an insider, "Since they have had their share of relationships in the past, they do not want to attract any attention about their friendship."

Due to work commitments in the suburbs, Neil shifted to his own pad in Andheri from his SoBo home last year. His place is not too far from where Sasha resides.

Neil, however, says, "People have nothing better to do. Sasha is my childhood friend. I am busy with my work." Sasha echoes him: "We are good family friends. We meet at events. He had invited me and my mom for the screening of his film, Prem Ratan Dhan Payo, but there is nothing more to it."

In 2014, there was buzz about Sasha and her 'quiet marriage' to musician Sachin Gupta who lived in her Lokhandwala neighbourhood. Then there was speculation that they had parted ways, apparently because her mother (yesteryear actress-singer Salma Agha) did not approve of him. Sasha was also linked with actor Ruslan Mumtaz with whom she had a bitter split in 2013 when an MMS was leaked, allegedly showing her kissing a guy.

Neil was allegedly linked with Asin and Sonal Chauhan when they were shooting for 3G (2013). The actor, who got a new lease of life in B'wood with Salman Khan's Prem Ratan Dhan Payo, will be seen next in the Amitabh Bachchan and Farhan Akhtar-starrer Wazir. Sasha made her Bollywood debut with the Arjun Kapoor-starrer Aurangzeb (2013) and later did Desi Kattey (2014), but as neither did well, her career did not take off.

SRK takes social media with a pinch of salt

SRK takes social media with a pinch of salt

He may be prolific on social media platforms but superstar Shah Rukh Khan says he does not use the medium to clarify any point.

The 50-year-old actor believes one has to take social media with a pinch of salt.

"I have never used social media to clarify anything. Why should I argue with someone who is foolish? You have to take social media with a pinch of salt. You need to be responsible when you are a public figure and people like me should be careful," he told reporters here during the promotion of his upcoming release 'Dilwale'.

The Rohit Shetty-directed film is facing backlash from a section of social media users, who are circulating messages to boycott 'Dilwale' to protest Shah Rukh's recent take on intolerance.

The actor says such criticism before the release of a film does not affect him or the movie.

"It is a small thing. People stand on the shoulder of public figures to say what they want to... Somebody had told me years ago that if you have name, then people will talk like this. 'Bahut saalon se naam hai', mashallah, now it happens every week or month...

"It's strange that it happens around the release of a film. There are opportunist people... They try and speak. In our country, my experience is such that I get so much love from people.... I understand that these things don't have any effect... Neither on us, our film, name or work," he said.

'Dilwale', also starring Kajol, Varun Dhawan and Kriti Sanon, will see Shah Rukh doing some dare devil stunts but the actor says such scenes now need a lot of conviction.

"It's easier to do realistic films than larger-than-life scenes. It's very difficult to get convinced at this age and I feel doing larger-than-life roles takes a lot of conviction."

Being brought up in Delhi, Shah Rukh says it's always feels good to be back in the city and he acts like a caretaker to his co-stars.

"I come to Delhi as a caretaker to my co-stars. I take them to have chole bhature. Delhi is always fun especially in winters. It's little cold and little hectic," he said.

'Dilwale' releases this Friday.

Why was Sonam stressed while shooting for 'Neerja'?

Why was Sonam stressed while shooting for 'Neerja'?

Actress Sonam Kapoor says she was under stress working in upcoming biopic "Neerja", which is a story of a slain air hostess.

The Ram Madhvani helmed biopic is on senior flight attendant Neerja Bhanot, who saved 360 lives on a Pan Am flight that was hijacked in Karachi in 1986. Bhanot became the youngest and first woman recipient of the prestigious Ashok Chakra Award, posthumously.

"It was not emotionally draining. It is important that this story is told. It is about this girl, the youngest civilian who got Ashoka Chakra. She was a normal girl...She did bit of modelling. She had the courage to save the world," Sonam told PTI.

The "Khoobsurat" actress said she was stressed throughout the shooting in anticipation that whether she is doing justice with her role.

"I hope I have done justice to it. I was stressed throughout the film hoping I have done best job possible. I feel the reason why this film was made is to recognise everyone that it doesn't matter who you are, where you come from. You have to be ordinary to do extra ordinary things and everybody has that in them. You need to have courage to do things."

The 30-year-old actress revealed that there are quite a few similarities between her and Neerja.

"My values with family, relationships, sensitivity, strong sense of ethics...I think the sense of right and wrong, young people need to see these values and have courage to do right things. This ordinary girl did extraordinary," she said.

With her last release "Prem Ratan Dhan Payo" being a superhit, Sonam says the Rajshri Production film has given her a wider reach as an actor.

"'Prem Ratan Dhan Payo' has given me wider reach as it has gone into the heartland of India and people are loving the film. For me it is important as my next film ('Neerja'). It is not about me, director and producer but about Neerja," she said.

'Dilwale' vs 'Bajirao Mastani': Box office mess or win-win game?

'Dilwale' vs 'Bajirao Mastani': Box office mess or win-win game?

Big budgets. Big directors. Big stars. With "Dilwale" and "Bajirao Mastani", both much-awaited Bollywood cinematic extravaganzas, releasing together on Friday, industry experts believe the clash will have a strong impact on the overall collections of the year. However, it's best not to expect a new record!

"Clashes are obviously not great," superstar Shah Rukh Khan, actor-producer of "Dilwale", told IANS.

SRK's movies usually have record-breaking number of screens, but for "Dilwale", he says he has only about 50 percent of them. He knows that his new movie "cannot" break records.

"There is another film releasing with our film, so we are not expecting an opening weekend record. But it's a working weekday businesswise. Had it released on December 25, it would have been different as it would have been a holiday and there would have been 20-30 percent more business," he said.

"But December 18 is a normal working day with two films releasing. I don't think any of the films will have an opening record as such."

"But I think there is a lot of breathing space for both the films as there are no big movies releasing for the next few weeks," Shah Rukh said, adding that he is happy with the "fantastic advance bookings" for "Dilwale", which is directed by Rohit Shetty.

The movie has all elements of an "in-the-face" commercial Bollywood entertainer laced with action, rib-tickling comedy, fresh pairing of Kriti Sanon and Varun Dhawan, the loved 'jodi' of Kajol-SRK, and scenic landscapes of Bulgaria, Iceland and Goa.

This is pitted against "Bajirao Mastani". A quintessentially Sanjay Leela Bhansali film, this one promises to be an intense visual cinematic treat showcasing snippets from the past, with battle scenes, costumes exuding a historical feel, and palatial sets.

The hype around the film is more because of the pairing of Ranveer and Deepika -- Bollywood's rumoured couple -- who created ripples with their chemistry in "Goliyon Ki Raasleela Ram-Leela".

The film also stars 'desi' girl Priyanka Chopra, who believes both "Dilwale" and "Bajirao Mastani" are "beautiful and different kind of films" made by "two prolific filmmakers".

The business of both films is sure to be affected, says Delhi-based film distributor Joginder Mahajan.

"Both the films will undoubtedly have a great impact on the overall box office of 2015. However, as they are releasing together, screens would be divided and their business will get affected," Mahajan told IANS.

"The profit of both the films will get divided. There was no big film released on December 11. Also, there is no film releasing on Christmas Day and January 1, 2016. So, this is a losing situation for both the films. Clashes at box office have always produced loss," Mahajan said.

The budget of both films is also well over Rs.100 crore. Both the films have strong content and heavy distribution costs.

But as Mahajan pointed out, "'Bajirao Mastani' will have more screens than 'Dilwale' as Eros registered the date in March last year only. Right now we can only hope that both the films should cover their budget costs as they have been made with Rs.100 crore-plus budgets."

The distributors are hopeful of striking gold somehow.

Prashant Tiwari, chairman, Prateek Group, which is distributing "Dilwale" in Delhi, Punjab and Uttar Pradesh, told IANS: "When you choose a territory for releasing a film, the major criterion for consideration is the business potential of a film in that region."

"We were confident that 'Dilwale' will do well in north India, especially since we have the prime territory of national capital with us. We are likewise expecting record breaking collections at the box office."

OMG! Trouble in paradise for Kat and Ranbir?

OMG! Trouble in paradise for Kat and Ranbir?

Apparently, Katrina Kaif is trying to give a boost to her relationship with Ranbir Kapoor.

For a while, there has been speculation about Katrina Kaif and Ranbir Kapoor's relationship, specially post his last outing, 'Tamasha' opposite ex flame Deepika Padukone. Gossip mills suggest all is not well between the lovebirds, but Kat is making a last-ditch effort to put their house in order.

The actress, we hear, plans to whisk off her beau for a year-end break to an island, instead of their favourite holiday destination, New York. For the past two years, they have been bringing in the New Year in the Big Apple.

Sources in the know say the island trip has been planned not only to take some time off, but, more important, to introspect where their relationship is headed.

Presently, Ranbir is shooting in London for Karan Johar's 'Ae Dil Hai Mushkil', which is expected to wind up by this weekend. He does not have any other film commitments. Kat is known to head home to London for X'mas after which she takes off with RK to usher in the New Year.

Says a source, "It appears that Katrina is keen to make things work. She has been telling her friends about wanting to fly out with Ranbir for a few days urgently. She has hinted on a lesser-known place, preferably an island getaway. After celebrating Christmas with her family, she will fly out to the chosen destination and Ranbir will directly meet her there."

The couple is slated to be back in town on January 3 after which they will begin work on their long-in-the-making film 'Jagga Jasoos'. Adds the source, "Katrina is keen that this project be completed to prove detractors wrong about her and Ranbir's onscreen chemistry."

She opened a Pandora's box in a recent interview where she admitted to not being close to Ranbir's family. She had also admitted she was not happy about him working with Deepika, and her greatest fear was that her man may not love her completely if and when she gets married.

Katrina Kaif was not available for comment.
