Sandeepa Dhar gets image-breaking role in new film

Sandeepa Dhar, who has played subdued, girl-next-door characters so far, is now set to break that image with a no-nonsense character of a policewoman in her upcoming film '7 Hours To Go'.
Sandeepa Dhar

In the Saurabh Varma directorial, Sandeepa plays ACP Nandini Shukla, who is determined to solve a case and has only seven hours to solve it -- as the title suggests. The character's success or failure at the same, forms the core of the film's plot.
"I'm grateful to my director Saurabh Varma because he envisioned me in a role which is diametrically opposite of what I have portrayed on screen until now.
"Usually, people feel that I can only do those delicate, soft kind of roles, so thanks to Saurabh, who saw the quirk in me and gave me a role which has many dimensions."
Sandeepa has featured in films like 'Isi Life Mein', 'Dabangg 2' and 'Heropanti'.
'7 Hours To Go', an investigative thriller, is produced by Krian Pictures. It is releasing worldwide on May 13, and also stars Shiv Pandit, Natasa Stankovic and Varun Badola.

Rajneesh Duggall plays various parts as conman in 'Udanchhoo'

Rajneesh Duggall says he plays around eight different characters as a conman in upcoming film 'Udanchhoo', directed by Vipin Sharma.
"I'm playing a conman, so there are lot of shades in my character and those lead into a situational comedy. I have about seven to eight roles in the film and I knew that there is a lot for me to play (do in it)," Rajneesh said here.
He said there are no specifications to the character he essays in the movie.
"My character has no name. Somewhere he is a south Indian, somewhere he is a Marathi guy, or a Mumbai boy, or a rich businessman and somewhere he's a cop," he added.
Rajneesh had made his debut with director Vikram Bhatt's "1920". He also featured with Sunny Leone in "Ek Paheli Leela", which brought him back into the limelight.
About "Udanchhoo", he said: "It is a satire with an underlying comedy, a social subject... Something happening with all of us. Everyone has that greed, it is basically your own devil. If you don't tame it, it will become a big demon inside you.
"The film is about how you subdue corruption, but it's all said with a comedy."
Rajneesh has primarily featured in films in the horror or thriller genre.
About trying comedy for the first time, he said: "I'm very good at comedy. Comedy is all about master shots and long shots and it can only happen if everyone's give-and-take is to the T."
The model-turned-actor also said he had a great time working with Prem Chopra and Ashutosh Rana in the film.
"When you work with a good actor, automatically a scene rises and raises the bar of the product.

Did rappers Yo Yo Honey Singh and Badshah get into scuffle?

Yo Yo Honey Singh and Badshah apparently indulged in some old-fashioned shoving and pushing at a private party
Best buddies-turned-bitter foes Yo Yo Honey Singh and Badshah have been locked in a verbal duel since last week. While the former compared himself to luxury four-wheeler brand Rolls Royce and tagged his ex Mafia Mundeer collaborator as the low-cost Nano (), Badshah slammed Yo Yo by calling him "a nobody" and added "Nano is one car which is more seen on the roads unlike the posh Rolls-Royce and whatever is seen in the public eye, sells more."

Yo Yo Honey Singh (left) and Badshah
The war of words, we hear, are a fallout of an alleged altercation between the rappers at a private party in Delhi nearly a fortnight ago. Says a source, "They were attending a common friend's bash a couple of weeks ago and happened to cross paths. The tension in the air was palpable. As luck would have it, they had a heated exchange and got into a scuffle. They shoved and pushed each other, forcing a few guests to intervene."
While Badshah remained unavailable for comment, Yo Yo Honey Singh's spokesperson denies the news and adds, "Honey is busy doing shows in Mumbai and Dubai. He hasn’t attended or been to any party at all. His biggest international performance happened today."
However, a source close to them says, "The fight took place after they passed unpleasant remarks at each other. We are not sure who provoked whom first. They got violent all of a sudden and charged at each other. We had a tough time pulling them apart since they were not ready to budge."

When asked about the lack of cinema theatres, the 'Dabangg' star said that "we can do another ten thousand plus cinema halls in this country".
"There are very few cinema halls in India and we can still do another ten thousand plus cinema halls in this country. Explaining the reason behind the need for cinema halls in the outlying areas, the actor added: "Because lots of small places in the cities they don't have any theatres."
On the professional front, the actor is busy with the shooting for his forthcoming film 'Sultan'.

Hey John did you say 'Hollywood'?

Hey John did you say 'Hollywood'?

With his films, he takes up stunts to a notch higher but actor John Abraham says in his upcoming movie 'Rocky Handsome' action is at par with Hollywood.

The 43-year-old actor, who was under rigorous training for the Nishikanth Kamat-directed film, said the action in it is lyrical.

"The film has the world-class action. It's not like any other action film. The stunts in it are lyrical as you need to maintain a certain posture when you are fighting with knives.

The chances of hurting yourself increase if you don't maintain a certain posture. I trained 14 hours a day for one month," John told reporters.

The 'Madras Cafe' star plays revenge seeker Kabir Ahlawat, who shares a warm bond with an eight-year-old girl.

Asked about his experiences of sharing screen space with Baby Diya Chalwad, John said, "The child was very special. She was always on time on sets. She was just seven-year-old but she was mature. She is a gymnast and after the shoot she used to show me gymnastics."

The film is releasing on Holi weekend and will also have a clash with Hollywood's much-touted movie 'Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice'.

But John is unfazed by the box office battle. "You have to decide, what you want to see? You want top see a superhero or a real hero? Besides action, 'Rocky Handsome' has emotion and soul too. Being a producer, I will not market a bad film."

The film also has a special appearance by John's 'Welcome Back' co-star Shruti Haasan.

'Rocky Handsome' also marks the acting debut of its director, who plays the main antagonist.

Jacqueline is proud of her fraternity?

Jacqueline is proud of her fraternity?

Actress Jacqueline Fernandez says she loves the generosity of the film industry in offering help for films, causes or charities, like for her 'Jacqueline Builds' initiative.

"Our fraternity has been very supportive of each other. Whenever there is someone from the industry who seeks help for their movies, or promotions or even causes, charities, I always feel like Bollywood or the film industry always stands up in solidarity, and I love that about my industry.

"Already I have got a lot of support from a lot of my co-stars, people who have been working with me and who have worked with me, so we are always there for each other, very important," said Jacqueline, who was at the Panbai School to thank schoolchildren who helped in her initiative.

Jacqueline said she intends to build homes for at least 10,000 families in Tamil Nadu, who were affected by the deadly floods late last year.

The event is scheduled to be launched on April 9 and she has tied up with NGO Habitat for Humanity.

"This year, I was particularly concerned about the floods in Tamil Nadu. Habitat for Humanity helped me put together 'Jacqueline Builds', but what we did not really actually expect was the amount of help that we have been receiving from all over India and my sincere thank you to everyone who donated and helped.

"I have done a build before, it is an amazing experience. You go there, you actually build the home with the person who will later be receiving the home, and you start from bottom up, so you're there carrying bricks, putting cement, you get really dirty and it's hot.

"There is a certain satisfaction that you get at the end of the day because you feel really happy, you put your blood and sweat into it. And the people you hand over the keys at the end of the day are so happy and grateful for the support you've given them, that is absolutely priceless," the actress said.

Jacqueline will be seen in 'Housefull 3', 'Dishoom' and 'A Flying Jatt' this year.

Oh Really? Style comes last for Athiya

Oh Really? Style comes last for Athiya

'Hero' actress Athiya Shetty, who has been appreciated for her fashion sense, says she just wears what she likes and doesn't think too much about style or fashion.

"I don't think too much about style and fashion, I just wear what I like," Athiya said at the launch of Nishika Lulla's Preview & Unveiled Collection.

Athiya has drawn comparison to another fashionista, Sonam Kapoor. Asked by the media about it, she said that nobody can be compared to Sonam.

She also said she felt "surreal" to be considered a fashionista among the younger lot.

About any fashion tips she would like to give young girls, she said: "You should feel comfortable in what you're wearing and you should dress according to your body type and don't think too much.

"I think fashion is an extension of your personality. I think it's about making mistakes and learning from those mistakes. Style should always be something unique, and you should break the trends on your own, which is very important."

About being an inspiration to people, she said: "It feels really special but the only person I can thank is my stylist Ami Patel, because she's been able to give me my own personality through my clothes and I think that's very important."

"Brands are very important, and I feel they should match your personality, and the brands that I have signed, they really match my personality."

On the festival of Holi to be celebrated on Thursday, Athiya said she usually celebrates Holi without using water and uses only colours but might not celebrate it this time.

Is Big B sad about something?

Is Big B sad about something?

On Holi, megastar Amitabh Bachchan reminisced about not just some of the best days that he had playing the festival of colours, but also the times when the Hindi film fraternity members were used to "losing their status and position to become one" for fun.

The 73-year-old, who has been associated with some of the best Bollywood songs on Holi, shared personal photographs of his past celebrations of the festival with some of his colleagues from the film world.

He wrote: "It was such innocent and fun times... Just gangs of friends enjoying... Losing their status and position to become one with us and all... Such a humbling feel. Now... Well I don't know, everything has become so... Ah forget it... Love to all and happy holi."

Big B mentioned how Holi is a festival "played with such abandon and passion".

"The best ones were played at Allahabad when I was very young and Father was in University teaching in the English department. The students would all come over and over ribald songs and music our homes were a flush of great camaraderie and happiness," he added.

Delhi, he said, was a little "subdued, because it invariably fell in March when it was still quite cold and the water was a most unwelcome commodity", he stressed that in Kolkata it was "rage".

However, he shared that the Holi celebrations in Mumbai were memorable.

"The film industry and the best Holi celebrations at the RK Studios of Shri Raj Kapoor, where the entire industry assembled. After his passing, much of the gaiety and fun vanished for some time until, we decided to have these revelries at Prateeksha (the Bachchan house).

"They were massive and grand and fun and just full of all that Holi celebrations desired... Dunk-coloured water ponds and tubs, masses of dry colour and the wet all over... Bands and music groups from all parts of the country playing non-stop... Gallons of 'bhang', the traditional drink and the traditional 'gujiya' to eat."

For Big B, these were "just the most enjoyable times".

"But we have not celebrated it to that extent for some years now .. deaths in the family and illnesses have prevented us .. but I think it is time to restart it all over again .. perhaps next year."

Superstar Shah Rukh Khan has expressed his desire to portray veteran actor-filmmaker Guru Dutt in a biopic.

Guru Dutt was known for helming classics like 'Pyaasa', 'Kaagaz Ke Phool', 'Sahib Bibi Aur Ghulam' and 'Chaudhvin Ka Chand'. He died at the age of 39.

An editor of a leading entertainment magazine tweeted about his wish to have Shah Rukh Khan play Guru Dutt on screen, saying he will be the best to show "anger, romance, devastation," all which is said to be a huge part of the filmmaker's tragic life.

To which, the 50-year-old 'Dilwale' actor replied, "Absolutely. I should do it. And as you lovingly say my friend my face is like a beautiful poem... in black & white."

Even after 52 years of Dutt's demise, his work is referred as a benchmark for quality filmmaking.

Was Swara kept in dark about her role in 'Nil Battey Sannata'?

Was Swara kept in dark about her role in 'Nil Battey Sannata'?

Swara Bhaskar, who will be seen in the Ashwini Iyer Tiwari directorial 'Nil Battey Sannata', says she did not know that she would be essaying the role of a mother in the film.

"When I asked about the role (to the director), she said it is about a mother of a 15-year-old daughter, who is in 10th class. I asked her, 'Do you want to give me the role of the daughter?' She replied, 'No, the mother'," Swara said at the trailer launch of the film.

Popular casting director Mukesh Chhabra was the one who had approached Swara for the film.

"I told him what kind of roles he was bringing to me... I had read the script with the intention to refuse it. Mukesh is a good friend, he asked me to read the script so I'll read it but I think I'm going to say no. But I read the script and I was like, 'Wow!'" she added.

Swara said that an actor is a "very selfish creature".

"We see our benefit and what we can do. I have read numerous scripts, but it is rare that there comes a script with so many possibilities," she added.

In the film, Swara will be seen playing the mother of a 15-year-old and shares a bittersweet bond with her while having big dreams for her, though her daughter questions her capability to give her good higher education.

About playing a mother so early in her career, Swara said: "The script was very beautiful, though everyone told me that it is a career suicide."

"I first tried to show motherly feelings to my cats, which failed, and Ashwini gave me the idea of interviewing my mother, so I actually sat her across the table, put on the recorder and spoke to my mother, it was an interesting experience for me and that changed me," she added.

The film also features Ratna Pathak Shah and Pankaj Tripathi.

It had received tremendous applause at the BFI London Film Festival (LFF) and the Silk Road International Film Festival in China, where Swara received the Best Actress Award.

"Nil Battey Sannata" is set to release on April 22.
