Kate Winslet 'determined' to win BAFTA

Kate Winslet 'determined' to win BAFTA

Actress Kate Winslet is "determined" to win the Best Supporting Actress at the forthcoming BAFTA Awards, which will be aired on Sunday.

The 40-year-old is nominated for the prestigious prize for her performance as Joanna Hoffman in `Steve Jobs`, the biopic about the late Apple co-founder, reports femalefirst.co.uk.

`I don't know if I'm necessarily hopeful (about winning), but I'm just more determined at this point. You know I really do just feel it's been an amazing year, it's been a great year for women in film but this particular category of Best Supporting Actress, it's been really quite up in the air...

"You know people have been floating in and out of this category, I won the Golden Globe, I was so fortunate to have won that but at the same time there's no shoe-in ... Root for me on Sunday, let's take it home for the Brits,` Winslet said.

The `Titanic` star will have stiff competition in the category from Alicia Vikander for `Ex Machina`, Jennifer Jason Leigh for `The Hateful Eight`, Julie Walters for `Brooklyn` and Rooney Mara for `Carol`.

She said: "I think that it's anyone's guess really. I wouldn't want to be putting a bet on who's going to win this award because who knows. I'm not going to go down the bookies that's for sure!"

Katy Perry invites Taylor Swift to her Grammy party

Katy Perry invites Taylor Swift to her Grammy party

It seems like singer Katy Perry is ready to end her feud with Taylor Swift. Perry says she has invited her pop rival to a pre-Grammy party that she is hosting in sponsorship with Spotify.

It is unclear if Swift will accept the invite, but she once boycotted Spotify and pulled her music from the streaming service. Another artiste snubbing Spotify who also gets an invite from Perry is Adele.

"It's just up to their schedules," nytimes.com quoted Perry as saying.

`Artistes are always looking for a way to connect with each other, but we don't get that authentic connection because we're either being pulled or pushed," Perry said of the party.

The feud between Perry and Swift started after the latter talked about a mean girl that inspired her single "Bad Blood". Without giving any names, Swift had said: "She did something so horrible. And it wasn't even about a guy! It had to do with business. She basically tried to sabotage an entire arena tour. She tried to hire a bunch of people out from under me."

Perry fired back with a cryptic message about "Regina George in sheep's clothing" as media quickly referred the unnamed star to her. She later suggested in an interview that Swift's "sweetheart" reputation was nothing more but a media narration.

However, later Swift denied that "Bad Blood" was about Perry as she clarified: "I never said anything that would point a finger in the specific direction of one specific person, and I can sleep at night knowing that."

`For him to grow up with a sibling close in age to him would be lovely, so yes fingers crossed,` she added.

Walsh even says that Bobby has been hinting at wanting a new baby in the family.

She said: "Bobby has started rocking his arms like a cradle and saying, 'Baaaaybee'. "

Motherhood gave me 'purpose': Adele

Motherhood gave me 'purpose': Adele

Singer Adele says becoming a mother gave her "purpose" and taught her to feel as though she was "truly living".

Adele took some time out of the music industry to welcome her three-year-old son Angelo, who she has with her partner Simon Konecki, into the world. She says her son makes her feel `proud`, reports femalefirst.co.uk.

`I can't have any other junk in my head to worry about as well. (Angelo) makes me very proud of myself. When I became a parent, I felt like I was truly living. I had a purpose, where before I didn't ...

"My main thing is mum, then it's me, then it's work. I think I had to take the right amount of time off to let people miss me. I just didn't really know what I was going on about. How could I ever try and fool anyone by putting the record out and expect them to get it if I didn't get it? It seemed a bit lazy,` Adele told Vogue magazine.

The 27-year-oldalso spoke about her weight loss, saying it has had one bad effect - she spends more money on clothes.

`I was trying to get some stamina for my tour, so I lost a bit of weight. Now I fit into normal, off-the-shelf clothes - which is really a big problem for me,` she said.

Katie Holmes rules out 'Dawson's Creek' reunion

Actress Katie Holmes doesn't think that the reunion of TV show `Dawson's Creek` will work.

The 37-year-old, who shot to fame with her act in the teenage show, says a reunion of the show would not work as it would be difficult to recapture the elements which made it successful, reports femalefirst.co.uk.

"When I look back at the show, it had a certain charm. It was before the internet really took over, it was before iPhones, it was before this kind of new form of communication, and it had this certain feeling that was of the nineties.

"I don't think that in today's world, you could achieve that same kind of feeling,` Holmes said on "Today" show.

Holmes's remarks come a few months after actor Joshua Jackson, who played her character's boyfriend Pacey Witter in the show, gave his idea for a reunion.

Brewing Bhaichara: Aamir has high hopes from Salman's Sultan

Brewing Bhaichara: Aamir has high hopes from Salman's Sultan

Superstar Aamir Khan has a lot of expectations from his actor-friend Salman Khan's upcoming film "Sultan" and is confident that it will turn out to be good.

"Salman's films are always very good. I have a lot of expectations from 'Sultan'. I am sure it will be a good film. Like everyone I also wait eagerly for his film," Aamir told reporters in Mumbai at the screening of "Neerja".

The 'Dabangg' Khan plays a wrestler from Haryana in "Sultan". Aamir also plays the role of a wrestler in his much talked-about film "Dangal".

"Sultan" is scheduled to release on Eid and "Dangal" is expected to hit the cinema houses in December. In "Dangal", a biographical sports-drama directed by Nitesh Tiwari, Aamir plays Mahavir Singh Phogat who taught wrestling to his daughters Babita Kumari and Geeta Phogat.

Aamir underwent a drastic change in his looks for the film. "It will be 'Ghajini' look again. For this film, I had to lose and gain weight. I had to gain 25 kg weight in six months and in the beginning my character is young...national level champion wrestler. I have to shoot for the young part," the 50-year-old actor said.

"Like how Sushil Kumar has muscular look...like 'Ghajini'...I have to get that look. I am working on that, it will take six months," he said.

'Fan' connects SRK to his 'Dillipan'

'Fan' connects SRK to his 'Dillipan'

Superstar Shah Rukh Khan loved every bit of getting back to his "roots" here on Tuesday. From visiting his college in Delhi University's North Campus to the lovers' spot at PVR Priya, the actor was upbeat about sharing his "Dillipan" that he has got to showcase on the big screen with his upcoming film "Fan".

After an overwhelming experience at his alma mater, Hanraj College, where he finally collected his graduation degree 28 years after passing out of the institution, SRK held a media conference at the PVR Priya theatre in south Delhi to promote "Fan".

"I love you Shah Rukh," screamed his several fans, who had won a contest of sorts to meet the actor and were seated in the balcony of the theatre, which SRK described as the "unaffordable" hostspot for lovers of his time.

Looking suave in a bearded look, the 50-year-old couldn't thank "Fan" director Maneesh Sharma enough for letting him explore his "Dillipan".

He said he had been longing to play a Delhi boy, and that he was "more envious than jealous" of other actors who got to play such roles on screen. Because he has been living in Mumbai for the past 25 years, he felt would have forgotten the 'Delhi dialect', but he is glad that with "Fan", he could go back to it.

"I would like to thank Maneesh that he brought me to my roots and gave me a Delhi character to play. This film is very special to me. Not just is this story special, but technologically, the visual effects and make-up that have been used in this film, I think that hasn't been used anywhere in the world.

"I feel for Hindi films, there will be something to look upto in terms of where we can go with visual effects and make-up," Shah Rukh said.

The film features Shah Rukh in two avatars -- one as superstar Aryan Khanna, a reflection of his own persona, and another as Gaurav, a fan of the superstar.

He was in the capital to launch a special anthem "Jabra fan", to be used as a promotional song for the movie. A peppy track, it features Shah Rukh in Gauravs's avatar, dancing away on Delhi's streets.

To a question posed by IANS on whom was he a fan of while growing up, SRK said: "I was not a fan of the extent shown in the film... So, as far as liking is concerned, there were two or three people I grew up really loving and trying to know about as there was no internet back in those days to be able to read up on some or collect a picture.

"One would be Mr. Milkha Singh. I loved stories about him, and how he used to be a champion. I used to be a big fan of his. The second would be Muhammed Ali... I was into sports, so I always liked his being little brashy and bratty, and still being so good at his sport.

"Then of course, all of us have grown up being Mr. Amitabh Bachchan's fans. I was one of them too. So, yes these three people... And strangely, because I was into sports, I have mostly sporting people that I was a fan of... Like Sunil Gavaskar."

Interestingly, Shah Rukh even mentioned Olympic gold medal-winning Bruce Jenner, who has become Caitlyn Jenner.

"I am glad that me and my daughter both know him or her as well because I never thought my children will be introduced to Bruce Jenner in a different avatar -- kind of like 'Fan'.... like I am being introduced in a different avatar after 25 years."

Shah Rukh also said he loved reading about and even got the opportunity to meet Mother Teresa, and that he was also a fan of actor Michael J. Fox.

What is Sonam'a biggest fear?

What is Sonam'a biggest fear?

Being a star kid comes with its own advantages but actress Sonam Kapoor says it is a constant struggle to make her own mark while living up to the legacy of her father Anil Kapoor.

Sonam stars in an upcoming biopic "Neerja", the story of a young flight attendant, who was shot dead by terrorists while trying to save the lives of passengers on a hijacked flight.

The movie aims to inspire youth to be fearless and when asked what's her biggest fear, Sonam said, "I have a lot of fears but the biggest is not to live up to my father's name.

Everybody reminds me of this every day. I face this fear every day. People say, 'Oh she is Anil Kapoor's daughter. Is she?' "It is heartbreaking but at the same time it gives me strength because I love being my father's daughter and I don't want anyone to make me feel like it is a burden. He has worked very hard to give me everything that I want. My father has always worked for the family.

That's my fear," she said.

Sonam, 30, also recalled a conversation with actor Dhanush, her co-star in "Raanjhanaa", about the same and that affected her deeply.

"One day I sat down with Dhanush, who is a very close friend of mine. I heard something and it stayed with me for a very long time. The saying was that 'not much grows under a banyan tree,' he said.

"'Raanjhanaa' is a turning point in my life and after that, I try to shine bright to make my father proud and so that a shadow can grow under a banyan tree."

"Neerja", also starring Shabana Azmi, is directed by Ram Madhavani. It will release this Friday, February 19.

Being Human: Salman's big-hearted gesture for a film set worker

Salman Khan's NGO extends financial help for the surgery of a film set worker's daughter

Known for taking up humanitarian causes, Salman Khan has offered financial help to a film worker struggling to meet the expenses of his 16-year-old daughter's open heart surgery.

Shyam Kanhaiya Chouhan, an assistant carpenter and member of the Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE), had requested the body to help him in his time of need. "After receiving the request from Chouhan, the federation wrote to Salman's NGO Being Human last month. The letter mentioned that the applicant is a member of Bollywood who is unable to afford the medical cost of his daughter's heart treatment," says a source at FWICE, adding that the star's NGO has offered financial help of Rs 25,000.

Chouhan is a daily wage earner, who makes upto Rs 750 a day but that's only when he has work in hand. "He had approached other donors as well. But after Being Human made the payment to the hospital, he could go ahead with his daughter's treatment," adds the source.

An official from the FWICE confirms the news, saying, "Salman Khan's NGO responded a fortnight after the federation forwarded Chouhan's letter to them.

However, since he is considering another hospital for the operation, we have asked him to send us a letter with the new hospital's name so that Being Human can make the payment to them."

Kareena is still a baby, see how?

Kareena is still a baby, see how?

Kareena Kapoor Khan says she's still a "baby" when it comes to acting as she is a "director's actor".

The 35-year-old actress' next film is R. Balki's directorial 'Ki and Ka', and this is the first time that she has worked with the acclaimed filmmaker.

Asked about the preparations she did for the film, the actress said: "I am a director's actor. I work best with amazing directors and work really badly with bad directors. I am an instinctive person and my director has to take me through that road. I am still a baby."

The actress spoke at the trailer launch of 'Ki and Ka' in Mumbai on Monday.

Balki, who was present there too, interrupted and said: "It's all rubbish... She is a fabulous actor, and she is possibly the finest actor that industry has produced. She doesn't do the normal preparation... She understands the script better than anybody else. All I have to do is to give her a nod. All great actors say that I am director's actor."

In the film, Kareena plays the character of Kia, an ambitious and a career-oriented woman.

On the other hand, Arjun Kapoor plays the character of Kabir, an IIT graduate and a house husband who has grown up wanting to be like his mother and not like his father.

Veteran actors Amitabh Bachchan and Jaya Bachchan also have a special appearance in the film.

Asked if he considers the "Paa" actor his lucky mascot, Balki said: "I don't think he will be happy if I call him a mascot. He is Amitabh Bachchan, he is the greatest actor. You will see him in this film in a special appearance."

Superstar Aamir Khan feels Sonam Kapoor will establish herself as an actress with her brilliant performance in her upcoming film "Neerja".

"Sonam has done a very good job... this film is best so far. With this film she will be able to establish herself as an actress," Aamir told reporters at the screening of "Neerja", which is scheduled to release this week.

"Shabana Azmi (who essays Sonam's mother) was brilliant. I get emotional soon and seeing the ending of the film, I had tears in my eyes. It is a very nice film and I wish all the best to the team," he said.

"Neerja", starring Sonam in the title role, revolves around the hijacking of Pan Am Flight 73 in Karachi, Pakistan.

The film shows how the flight attendant fought for the lives of her passengers.

The film directed by Ram Madhvani is scheduled for release on February 19.

"I had seen the film sometime back as Ram is a good friend of mine. He is a talented director. It is a true story and she was a brave girl. It is an inspiring film," Aamir said.

Talking about his fears in real life, the 50-year-old star says, "I am scared of lot of things. The biggest fear is about family... when my family... wife, kids and parents go out, I do get tensed."

BO Report Card: 'Sanam Re' trumps over 'Fitoor'

BO Report Card: 'Sanam Re' trumps over 'Fitoor'

Katrina Kaif-Aditya Roy Kapur's love story 'Fitoor' pales in comparison to Yami Gautam-Pulkit Samrat's chemistry in 'Sanam Re' at the box office on Valentine weekend

Two romantic films, Abhishek Kapoor's 'Fitoor' and Divya Khosla Kumar's 'Sanam Re', hit theatres just ahead of Valentine's Day and while the industry's bet was on the former, the audience showed little love for it. The other emerged as the dark horse, much to the surprise of trade pundits.

Right from day one, 'Sanam Re' starring Yami Gautam, Pulkit Samrat and Urvashi Rautela remained ahead in the numbers game. Performance of 'Fitoor' was lacklustre despite a bigger star cast (Katrina Kaif and Aditya Roy Kapur) and budget (nearly Rs 60 crore).

"Fitoor's lukewarm opening took many in the industry by surprise since much was expected from the director who has films like 'Rock On' and 'Kai Po Che' to his credit.

The collections improved only marginally on Sunday. It seems to be the first major setback of the year. However, it managed to garner critical acclaim. 'Sanam Re' collections were not up to the mark, but it generated better results," says trade expert Amod Mehra.

After starting out with just Rs 3.61 crore on Friday, collections of 'Fitoor' somewhat rose over the weekend, says trade analyst Taran Adarsh, adding: "The film benefited from the Valentine's Day spirit, but overall, numbers remained low. It catered to a tiny section of the audience. Sanam Re had a super weekend."

Mehra says Sanam Re's business was steady on Saturday and improved on Sunday, and if it maintains the momentum through week days, it can get to the 'safe' mark. It must be mentioned that the film managed to get more screens than 'Fitoor'.

Hollywood's anti-superhero film 'Deadpool' featuring Ryan Reynolds proved to be the surprise package of the week, adds Mehra. The film did a domestic business of Rs 14.25 crore, which was slightly more than Fitoor's figures.

Kareena clueless about no-kissing story

Kareena clueless about no-kissing story

Actress Kareena Kapoor Khan seems amused to hear about her alleged "no-kissing policy".

It was earlier reported Kareena had promised her actor husband Saif Ali Khan after their marriage in 2012 that she won't do kissing scenes in films.

But the poster and trailer of her upcoming film 'Ki and Ka' show her and Arjun Kapoor kissing.

When asked if she was deviating from the "policy", Arjun jumped in to say, "You have a life insurance policy na? All other policies can go to hell."

Kareena said, "I read that there was this policy... I don't know where it came from."

The film's director, R Balki, said he failed to understand the fuss about kissing on screen.

"I don't understand why kissing is made a big deal," he added.

In "Ki and Ka", 30-year-old Arjun plays the role of Kabir, an IIT graduate and a 'house husband', and Kareena, 35, plays the character of Kia, a career-oriented woman. During the trailer launch of the film, Kareena and Arjun were asked to re-enact the kissing scene for photo-op.

Kareena looked at Balki and said, "You will get me divorced."

Arjun said, "I don't think I will get entry in Pataudi household.

Kareena, however, planted a peck on her co-star's cheek and also quipped, "Arjun is a good kisser."

The film is slated to release on April 1.

Arjun Kapoor: I would be a supportive hubby, will cook breakfast

Arjun Kapoor: I would be a supportive hubby, will cook breakfast

Actor Arjun Kapoor, who is playing a house-husband in his upcoming film "Ki and Ka", has said that he would be a supportive husband in real life.

The actor, playing a homemaker spouse of actress Kareena Kapoor who will be seen as a careerist woman, said housewives are often taken for granted and it's time they should be valued.

"The concept exists in front of us and we take them (housewives) for granted. The film deals with something important. People say you (house wife) sit at home. (But) a housewife doesn't (merely) sit at home, but takes care of the house. She does sacrifices, lets go off her dreams and aspirations to nurture us (children)," Arjun told reporters here at the trailer launch of the film.

The "Gunday" actor wants men to see the film.

"I would like a lot of men to see this film, hug them (their wives) and tell them how much they value them. Every human being wants to be valued and loved whether I can or not..one just needs to support the partner (sic).

"I think no man or woman should dictate what he or she should do. It (the film) is just an opinion but these things do matter today. In my personal relation I would love, respect and be supportive to the girl. I would even make breakfast for her," he added.

The "Ishaqzaade" actor feels there is a change in the society as there are lot of women working today.

"We do see women working around. I have seen more female journalists. There is a change. I think onus is on the media as well to educate people. We make entertaining films, we try to showcase things," he said.

Kapoor said, "We should be positive about the change than having a myopic view on it. We live in a fantastic country where we can make our choices and make most of it. Stop blaming other people".

In the trailer of "Ki and Ka", the 30-year-old actor is seen cutting vegetables and doing other household chores.

"I don't know much about cooking. It was during this film that I learned. I know bit about cooking. I took things for granted," he said.

"I was grown in the lap of luxury. I had people taking care of me and catering to my needs for these years. I did not understand how much efforts it takes to be selfless that these housewives are," the actor said.

Arjun revealed that he had injured his fingers while chopping vegetables while shooting for the film.

"When I heard the film. There were sequences to be shot in kitchen. So, I wanted to learn how to hold a knife correctly, cut vegetables. I learned a bit of that," he said.

Kareena said she was impressed with Arjun's culinary skills.

"I want a maid...you are so good," she said in a lighter vein, to which Arjun replied, "I don't think I will get work after this as she has made me a bawarchi".

Arjun, son of producer Boney Kapoor, thinks that films are a way of creating awareness, but the onus of changing the society shouldn't be put on their shoulders.

"There is this perception that films are going to bring change. Films are a reflection of the society. It's a misconception that cinema will revolutionise things. I think it is important to have wareness," he said.

"These conversation (on equality) has happened in a hush-hush manner...why a taboo. Why not people are comfortable with their life...It is about being tolerant towards the choice people make," he added.

The R Balki-directed film also stars Amitabh Bachchan, Jaya Bachchan in special appearances, and is slated for release on April 1.

Watch! SRK gifts 'Fan' anthem to his 'Jabra fans'

They flocked in hundreds to the venue, waited for hours with relentless enthusiasm and excitement to see their star Shah Rukh Khan and finally got a present from him in the form of a special song of his upcoming film 'Fan'.

The 50-year-old actor launched the film's anthem 'Jabra Fan' at Hansraj College of Delhi University, from where he did his graduation.

"I am lucky that the college authorities have given me permission to come here and launch one of my favourite songs... It's a special moment for me to come back to my college after so many years," Shah Rukh said after launching the anthem.

The song has been completely shot in the capital. Film's director Maneesh Sharma, also a Hansraj alumni, said it is just a promotional track. "It won't be a part of the film. It is just a promotional song. We are having the premiere here in our college."

Students from various colleges started gathering at the venue from around 11 am. It looked like a scene taken from the first teaser of the movie, as not only the college ground, but also the roads of North Campus were clogged by fans waiting to get a glimpse of their hero.

A large number of police officials and bouncers were on duty to manage the crowd and avoid any unruly circumstances. The superstar was scheduled to arrive at 4.30 pm and just an hour before he reached, a few students fainted due to overcrowding.

Before officially launching the track, Shah Rukh greeted his fans with his signature pose and also talked about his graduation days.

The college presented the 'Dilwale' actor with a calendar made by its students.

'Fan' features Shah Rukh in double avatars, one as a superstar and the other his young lookalike admirer, Gaurav. The peppy number, composed by music duo Vishal-Shekhar, introduces Gaurav, and shows him dancing in front of locations like Red Fort, hopping on-and-off from DTC bus and singing 'Mai tera hai re tera, jabra fan hogaya'.

The much-awaited Yash Raj film is due to hit theatres on April 15.
