With Saif Ali Khan and Dinesh Vijan rumoured to be going
their separate ways, we train our spotlight on the fickle nature of the
film industry, where long-term partnerships have gone kaput due to
myriad reasons
Bollywood has seen many enduring friendships that have resulted in some
truly iconic moments on the silver screen. But some partnerships have
fallen through over time, the latest example being that of business
partners Dinesh Vijan and Saif Ali Khan.
In 2009, film producer Dinesh Vijan (left) joined hands with actor
Saif Ali Khan to set up a production house. Latest reports say that the
two have had a fallout due to some differences, and that Vijan is now
producing films under another banner.
After forming Illuminati Films in 2009, they have reportedly parted ways
now. Sources say that Saif will now produce movies under Illuminati
Films while Dinesh will helm projects under the Maddock Films banner.
`The split could be due to creative differences, but financial issues
cannot be ruled out either,` says a source, adding that they apparently
decided to split after the release of their film, Go Goa Gone.
Saif was unavailable for comment while Dinesh's rep said Illuminati will
continue to be a joint ownership. The statement read, `Saif and Dinesh
will jointly produce films under this banner. But they will also produce
films independently under their respective banners.`
Referring to the fickle nature of the glamour industry, senior film
journalist, Bharathi Pradhan, says, `Most friendships and partnerships
in Bollywood are temporary.`
Another insider says that fights and patch-ups are commonplace in
showbiz. `Despite having a major fight, Ajay Devgn and David Dhawan
collaborated on a film called Hum Kisise Kum Nahin,` says the source. We
looks at Bollywood partnerships that have gone kaput over time...
Aamir Khan and Juhi Chawla
A much sought after pair in the '90s, they last
worked together in Indra Kumar's Ishq in 1997. Aamir apparently had
played a prank on Juhi during an outdoor shoot, which the actress didn't
appreciate. Sources say that the two are yet to patch up. Salman Khan worked with Sanjay Leela Bhansali in
his first film Khamoshi, and in Hum Dil Chuke Sanam that did very well
at the BO. Bhansali also wanted to make Bajirao Mastani with him. But
Salman apparently got upset when he heard that the filmmaker had cast
Hrithik Roshan instead of him in a Hollywood film's Hindi remake. Close friends since 1990, Dutt gave Gupta a
chance with Aatish, which then gave way to more collaborations. Under
their banner, White Feather Productions, they produced films like Kaante
and Shootout at Lokhandwala. They apparently fell out in 2007 during
the making of the latter due to financial issues. Though they patched up
at Big B's 70th birthday party, they seem to have limited it to the
personal sphere. No one really knows the reason behind Karan Johar
and Kajol's alleged fallout. They worked together for 14 years and the
filmmaker has reportedly said his love and affection for the actress
will always remain the same. They last worked together in My Name is
Khan in 2010. Sajid Khan has directed three films for Sajid
Nadiadwala, including Heyy Babyy, Housefull and Housefull 2. But when
Sajid was asked to direct the first part of Housefull 3, he apparently
demanded more money and said that his film, Housefull, had resuscitated
Akshay Kumar's career, a comment that didn't go down well with
Nadiadwala and Akki. David and Govinda have worked together in many
films including Hero No1, Haseena Maan Jayegi, Coolie No 1 and Bade
Miyan Chhote Miyan. The two stopped working together after their film,
Do Knot Disturb (2009) flopped. David moved on to working with other
actors like Salman Khan before shooting Partner (2007) that starred both
Govinda and Sallu. The director is now making films with his actor son,
Varun Dhawan. Says a source, `Govinda is hurt by the cold shoulder
treatment meted out to him.` The actor and filmmaker were best friends and
they have delivered several blockbuster films like Ghayal, Ghatak and
Damini. The two had a fallout in 2000 when they both decided to make a
film on Bhagat Singh and the final nail in the coffin was when they
decided the same date for the release of their films. There have been
reports about them working together but nothing has materialised so far. The two met on the sets of the film, Sarhadi
Lootera, and worked together on films such as Adhikar and Andaaz. They
wrote around 21 films together, including Zanjeer, Deewar and Sholay.
They split in 1987 apparently due to ego issues but completed their
pending assignments like Mr India and Zamana. Later on, both wrote film
scripts separately. Salim almost stopped writing but Javed went on to
become a popular lyricist. Bunty Walia and Sohail Khan have produced films
and stage shows for many years. The two apparently fell out after making
films like Hello Brother, Pyaar Kiya Toh Darna Kya and Maine Dil Tujko
Diya, due to financial reasons. The two have been working separately for
over 12 years now and it is said they are not on talking terms with
each other. Musician brothers Jatin-Lalit have composed for
many films, including Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge, Khamoshi, Kuch Kuch
Hota Hai and Mohabbatein. They split in 2006 citing personal problems;
buzz was that money was also a bone of contention. While Lalit has
composed music for Life Mein Kabhie Kabhie, Dulha Mil Gaya, and the
famous song, Munni Badnaam Hui, from Dabanng, Jatin has worked on films
like I M 24, 9 Eleven and Chakradhar. Nadeem-Shravan were among the most successful
music directors of the 1990s and they worked together to make music for
Aashiqui, Saajan, Deewana and Raja Hindustani. After being named a
suspect in the Gulshan Kumar murder case, Nadeem chose to stay in the
UK, though he continued to compose music with Shravan. They split in
2005. Ironically, their last film together was Dosti
