Jiah Khan case: Sooraj cried after learning of girlfriend’s suicide

With the CBI filing a fresh charge sheet in the Jiah Khan Suicide case, Bollywood actor Sooraj Pancholi is once again making headlines. Sooraj is accused of abetting the suicide of the 26-year-old ‘Nishabd’ actress who was found hanging at her residence on June 3, 2013.

Sooraj who debuted in September this year with Salman Khan’s production ‘Hero’, had broken down when he learnt about his girlfriend Jiah’s death, the actor’s childhood friend Karan Joshi revealed. Karan is among the 39 witnesses listed by the CBI in its charge sheet against the actor.   

In his statement, Karan also revealed that he and Sooraj were together when Sooraj’s father Aditya Pancholi broke the news of Jiah’s suicide to them.

On the night of June 3 2013 when Jiah committed suicide, Karan was with Sooraj at his Juhu flat when he received a call from Aditya at about 11.45 PM. He asked both of them to come to his bungalow where Aditya was waiting for them with a friend Kavya, Karan said.

When the two reached the bungalow, Aditya told Sooraj that Jiah had been found hanging. “Immediately, Suraj broke down,” Karan in his statement. Aditya then asked Sooraj when he had last had contact with Jiah. Sooraj narrated the day’s events to his father.

Around 1.30 AM, another friend of Aditya named Munnu, came by the bungalow and informed them that Jiah’s body had been shifted to Cooper Hospital. “Suraj hugged Munnu and cried badly,” said Karan.

After a while, Aditya and Munnu left to meet Jiah’s mother Rabiya at her residence, while Karan, Sooraj and Kavya stayed back. When Aditya and his friend returned, all of them left the bungalow.

Aditya and Sooraj took one car, while Karan was asked to follow them in another. They drove to Seven Bungalows in Andheri, where Aditya and Sooraj “discussed something” in the car, after which Sooraj moved to Karan’s car and they all returned home and went to bed.

The next morning, i.e. on June 4, Sooraj’s mother Zarina Wahab arrived at the Bandra bungalow, after which they directly went to Juhu Police station for questioning, according to Karan’s statement in the charge sheet.

Karan’s statement revealed the events that took place after the news of Jiah’s suicide was broken to Sooraj.
