The popular comedian Kiku Sharda, best
known for his character Palak on TV show ‘Comedy Nights With
Kapil’ was arrested on Wednesday for allegedly hurting the sentiments of the
followers of Dera Sacha Sauda. He has been booked for allegedly mimicking Dera
Chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh and hurting the religious sentiments of his
followers.
Kiku hurt the sentiments of the Singh’s followers by posing the self-claimed
godman in an episode of ‘Comedy Night With Kapil’, which was aired on December
27, 2015. Miffed with the episode, the followers filed case against Kiku.
Kiku has been sent to 14 days judicial custody. The actor also apologised
after the arrest.
Apologizing for his act, Kiku called himself a ‘god fearing man’ and
clarified his act wasn’t meant to hurt anybody’s sentiment. “I apologise if my
act has hurt anybody's sentiment. I never want people to get hurt because of my
work,” he said.
Kiku Sarda also took to social media and with joining hands he apologized
for his wrong#Doston the act on TV was not to hurt anyone's feelings. My

Kiku further added, "I respect religion and rituals. I respect all
Gurus. I'm a god fearing man. It was just an act which was done with the
intention to make people laugh. Channel also edits what they consider cannot be
aired."
Haryana Police arrested him from Mumbai. On December 31st,
Kiku was booked under Section 295 A of the Indian Penal Code (outraging
religious feelings of any class by insulting its religion or religious belief).
