Ranveer Singh, who essays the role of Peshwa Baji Rao in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s period romance ‘Bajirao Mastani’, has given his all to get into the skin of his character. The actor reportedly even stopped talking to other on the sets to become the intense and deep character that the role demanded.
The impact of Baji Rao’s character on Ranveer was so much
that he once had an otherworldly experience while shooting for the film. The
actor confessed to having an eerie encounter with Peshwa Baji Rao’s ghost.
“I used to not believe in ghosts until this incident. I
really think I saw Bajirao’s ghost once. It was a very trippy experience and I
completely freaked out. I recall it as one of the most difficult days of the
shoot. I thought I felt some kind of presence and something told me it’s him,”
a Deccan Chronicle report quoted Ranveer as saying.
The actor said a random thought had occurred to him of
encountering Baji Rao’s ghost, and the following week he felt it actually
happen.
“I had a tough task ahead of me on that day of the shoot,
and I was praying hard to get it right. There was a black wall on the sets on
which some white dust had settled in the shape of Bajirao's figure. It had the
turban, the eyes, nose, the mooch and the arms. The resemblance was there for
all to see," Ranveer added.
He also admitted that it could be his mind playing tricks,
but said he had a strong instinctive feeling. “I am not someone who believes in
ghosts. But I do have my moments of superstition,” he said.
Ranveer is currently busy promoting the film with co-star
Deepika Padukone who plays the role of Mastani, Baji Rao’s beloved and second wife.
Priyanka Chopra who portrays the role of Baji Rao’s first
wife Kashibai, is busy in the US shooting for her American series ‘Quantico’,
but the actress was in the country a few days to attend a song launch of the
film.
‘Bajirao Mastani’ also stars Tanvi Azmi, Mahesh Manjrekar,
Milind Soman and Sanjay Mishra among others, and is slated to hit screens on
December 18.
