The makers of biopic ‘MS Dhoni: The Untold Story’ have roped
in Herry Tangri to essay the role of cricketer Yuvraj Singh in the Neeraj
Pandey directorial. The Punjabi actor will essay both the younger and mature
version of Yuvraj in the film.
The actor who is popular for his roles in ‘LSD: Love Sex Aur
Dhokha’, ‘Bhaag Milkha Bhaag’ and ‘Luv Shuv Tey Chicken Khurana’, holds a
striking resemblance to the team India all rounder, which landed him the role.
"The film's casting director, Vicky Sidana, introduced
me to Neeraj sir in October. He had seen me in the unreleased film ‘Bhaangarh’
and was so impressed, he didn't even take my audition," Herry told Mumbai
Mirror.
The actor added that due to his resemblance to Yuvraj Singh,
he is often mistaken as the 33-year-old cricketer who recently got engaged. Recalling
an incident, he said when he was in Rajasthan, a group of kids approached him for an
autograph, mistaking him for Yuvraj and he quietly obliged.
Even the cricketer’s father Yograj Singh had noticed the
similarity with his son when they met ‘Bhaag Milkha Bhaag’ success bash.
Herry has already shot for the film as the younger Yuvraj,
in Jamshedpur. "It was for a state-level under-19 match which Yuvi played
against Dhoni in 1999. The match was never aired but the selectors were
watching the match closely so it's really important in the film," he
revealed.
Although Herry too has played cricket for a long time, it
was tough for him to essay Yuvraj’s role. "I played cricket till the
district level but I am a right hand batsman and Yuvi is a lefty. My coach,
Mohit Chaturvedi, had to train me for a month before I got the stance right.
The first few days were really difficult," the actor said.
His second schedule of shooting will begin in January when the
portions of a matured version of Yuvraj will be shot. The shooting will mostly
take place in Mauritius, he said.
Sushant Singh Rajput plays the role of Mahendra Singh Dhoni
while Kiara Advani will be seen in the role of the cricketer’s wife Sakshi
Dhoni. Veteran actor Anupam Kher will essay the role of his father Pan Singh in
the biopic.
Produced by Rhiti Sports Management, Inspired Entertainment
and Adarsh Telemedia, the film will be released sometime next year.
