Television actor Gajendra Chauhan is set to take charge as
the chairman of Film and Television Institute of India, on Thursday, Ahead of
this, the Pune police have issued notices to 17 FTII students warning them of
action if they create any law and order situation.
The notices were given to 17 students who held FTII director
Prashant Pathrabe captive during their strike last year. The appointment of the
BJP member as the chief of the premiere film institute had witnessed strong
protests that lasted for four months last year.
Chauhan, best known for his role as Yudhisthir in B R Chopra’s
‘Mahabharat’, will chair the first meeting of FTII Society, the reconstitution
of which triggered the protests six months ago.
The actor-turned-politician said that he only wanted to
focus on doing his job. "I have been ordered by the government, and I will
do my job. Let me go there and see. I can't comment on what they will do, but I
am ready to do my job," Chauhan said.
“We will be finalising the governing council and then other
agenda will be discussed,” the 59-year-old actor told IANS.
Chauhan, who was appointed as FTII chairman on June 9, 2015,
will be joining office after six months of his appointment.
The students of FTII went on an indefinite strike on June 12
questioning his professional credibility to lead the institute due to lack of
“stature” and “vision”. They withdrew the strike in October after 139 days.
