Ex-flames Ranbir Kapoor and Deepika Padukone have reportedly
returned a huge amount of money to the producers of their film ‘Tamasha’.
Ranbir and Deepika’s pairing in the Imtiaz Ali directorial
was a high point of the movie and it was expected that ‘Tamasha’ would bring in
great numbers at the box-office. However, it was not so. The couple failed to
recreate their magical chemistry and the film failed to generate the money
expected out of it. Although ‘Tamasha’ was critically acclaimed, it tanked at
the box office.
‘Tamasha’ which released on November 27, 2015, collected a
decent Rs 38 crore in its first weekend, but the collection dropped to over 50
percent on its first Monday and continued decreasing throughout the week. The second
weekend garnered only Rs 6.50 crore. The collection now stands at Rs 106.18
crore worldwide.
As per reports, Ranbir has returned Rs. 10 crore to the
producers of Tamasha, UTV and Sajid Nadiadwala, while Deepika has returned Rs 5
crores so that the distributors don’t suffer very high losses.
‘Tamasha’ was sold to the distributors at a very high price
due to the golden pairing of Deepika and Ranbir, but the movie turned out to be
an ‘average grosser’. So, to make the movie more viable for the producers, Ranbir
and Deepika have returned a ‘substantial amount’, according to reports.
Meanwhile, Deepika will be beginning the year with her
maiden Hollywood venture. She will start shooting for ‘XXX: The Return of
Xander Cage’, along with Vin Diesel, Jet Li and Tony Jaa in February. Ranbir is
also shooting for Karan Johar’s ‘Ae Dil Hai Mushkil’ starring Aishwarya Rai
Bachchan and Anushka Sharma.
