Model-turned-actor Akanksha Puri who will be making her
Bollywood debut with Madhur Bhandarkar’s upcoming film ‘Calendar Girls’ said
the director has a great understanding of women’s ‘psyche’.
Akanksha has already acted in Tamil and Malayalam films
before venturing into the Hindi film industry.
The actress observed, “I am quite surprised to come across a
man, who truly understands the whole psyche of women. And that's the reason he
is able to make this kind of cinema so well.”
“He exactly knows how the women folks would react to a
particular point or how they will behave in a particular situation and that's
what also shows in his films as well,” Akanksha added.
The National Award winning director had made women-centric
films such as ‘Chandni Bar’, ‘Fashion’, ‘Heroine’ etc. Sharing her experiences of
working with the filmmaker, Akanksha said, “More than a director, Madhur has
always been a very good friend and family to all of us. We are very free to
talk to him and comfortable.”
She further said that the director clearly knew what he
wanted from his cast and has the ability to change the scenes or the reactions
of the actors as per his understanding. “He is so clear of what he wants and
that makes easy for us also. He has the habit of changing reactions and does
not stick to the script by word,” Akanksha said.
Besides Akanksha, ‘Calendar Girls’
also stars Kyra Dutt, Avani Modi, Satarupa Pyne, and Ruhi Singh. The film is
set to release in August.
