Protestors’ burnt Shahrukh's effigy, cancels ‘Dilwale’ shows

Today the clashes of the titans, ‘Bajirao Mastani’ and ‘Dilwale’ faced disruption in many places of the country. Protesters instrumented various ways to show their anger over the screening of the two films and it resulted in the cancellation of shows in many parts of India.
‘Dilwale’ and ‘Bajirao Mastani’ faced protests for two different reasons. Protesters' called for a ban on Rohit Shetty’s ‘Dilwale’ following Shahrukh Khan’s comment on intolerance while ‘Bajirao Mastani’ has been targeted for allegedly showing Maratha general Bajirao Ballal Bhat in a bad light.
Protest against the screening of ‘Dilwale’ starring Kajol and Shahrukh Khan were held at Dadar in Central Mumbai by right-wing group Hindu Sena. They criticized the Bollywood superstar for allegedly promoting the film in Pakistan. Agitators tried to barge into the Nakshatra Multiplex, but were stopped by the police.
“Pakistan is busy killing our soldiers and here we have Shah Rukh Khan promoting the film on Pakistani TV shows. How can we allow such a person to screen his movie in India?” asked Hindu Sena state president Santosh Yadav. The group also objected to Khan’s recent statement on “intolerance”, stating that it showed his anti-India bias.
Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) activists burnt posters of Shahrukh and cancelled shows.
“Those who talk of intolerance in India and leaving the country should live in Pakistan. Why should we watch their movies? Also, Shah Rukh Khan’s apology didn’t sound (like it was) a true apology. He sounded arrogant,” BJYM leader Sonu Bachhani told HT during the protest at Samdariya Mall.
In Bihar, agitators burnt Shahrukh Khan’s effigy outside movie halls in Araria and Patna districts.
Protests against Ranveer Singh and Deepika Padukone ‘Bajirao Mastani’ were mostly confined to Pune in Maharashtra.
