Superstar Salman Khan was overwhelmed and broke down as the
judge read out the verdict acquitting him of all charges in the 2002
hit-and-run case. His family members including sister Alvira Agnihotri and politician
Baba Siddiqui who were present at the court, huddled and congratulated each
other.
It was a moment of celebration for all Salman Khan fans, who
gathered outside the actor’s residence – Galaxy Apartments ahead of the verdict
into Salman’s appeal against his conviction in the case by a lower court.
As soon as the news about his acquittal was out, people
broke into jubilation and were seen cheering and hugging each other outside his
house in suburban Bandra. The huge crowd went in a frenzy causing disruption to
traffic movement in the area for a while.
Police had to arrange for extra security and deployed a team
of State Reserve Police Force in the area.
Bollywood celebrities including actor Anupam Kher, Ajay
Devgn, Emraan Hashmi, music composer Anu Malik, director duo Abbas-Mastan
visited Salman’s house.
Meanwhile, Salman who was reportedly shooting in Karjat
reached the Bombay High Court a little after 1.30 PM. Justice A R Joshi had
sought his presence in the court for the final verdict which he read out in a
courtroom jampacked with media persons, lawyers, law students among others.
Later, the ‘Bajrangi Bhaijaan’ actor took to Twitter to
express his humility. “I accept the decision of the judiciary with humility. I
thank my family, friends & fans for their support & prayers,” he wrote.
Some of his colleagues and friends in the industry also
expressed their happiness for him on the micro-blogging site.
Veteran actor Rishi Kapoor said, “Back. Welcome reprieve for
Salman. Unprecedented reaction to this news.” Filmmaker Sajid Khan tweeted,
“@BeingSalmanKhan bollywood, fans and his critics will all have to agree to
this.. Salman Rules Fridays... I am very happy for the Khan family.”
“Looks like someone up there heard all our prayers,” actor
Rohit Roy posted. Actress Ameesha Patel, who visited Salman at his residence on
Thursday, posted, “So happy to hear the good news that @BeingSalmanKhan has got
bail. Prayers of all have been answered.”
“The kindness of a man has been judged by the god himself...
Good deeds never go in vain. Thank you one and all for the prayers and love,”
tweeted Salman’s ‘Jai Ho’ co-star Daisy Shah.
Actress Amrita Rao said, “Happy for @BeingSalmanKhan &
family.”
Pakistani singer Adnan Sami tweeted, “I am extremely happy
for @BeingSalmanKhan! He definitely deserves this relief.#ISupportSalman.”
VJ and former ‘Bigg Boss’ contestant Andy wrote, “Congratulations!
@BeingSalmanKhan God Bless may this positive news bring a sense of peace and
atonement. #SalmanVerdict much love.”
Filmmaker Subhash Ghai who co-produced the remake of his
1983 film ‘Hero’ with Salman this year, Milap Zaveri, writer of his 2005 film ‘Lucky:
No Time For Love’, singer Mika Singh and censor board member Ashoke Pandit were
among others who also tweeted.
A restaurant themed after Salman Khan named Bhaijaanz’ also
celebrated the actors acquittal in a unique way by allowing its customers to pay
their bills according to their wish. The customers could take anything and avail
a discount of up to 99 percent as per their wish, owner of the eatry Rahul
Narain Kanal told a news wire.
The restaurant located in Mumbai’s Carter Road has posters
of the superstar and his popular dialogues gracing its walls. Even the items in
the menu are named after his movies.
