Bollywood actress Rani Mukherjee and filmmaker Aditya Chopra
on Wednesday (December 9) became proud parents of a beautiful baby girl. The
couple have reportedly named her Adira, which is a combination of initials of Aditya
and Rani.
Rani was admitted to Mumbai’s Breach Candy hospital on Tuesday
night and was blessed with a baby girl this morning. Mother and baby are
believed to be doing well. It is the couple’s first child.
Rani’s brother-in-law and Aditya’s younger brother Uday
Chopra broke the news on Twitter and announced about his niece, “IT’S A GIRL!!!!!” The proud uncle also
congratulated her parents and tweeted, “Rani and Aditya Chopra become proud
parents to a baby girl named Adira. Congratulations!”
Rani thanked her fans and well-wishers and said her daughter
Adira “God’s greatest gift.”
"I would like to thank all my well-wishers and fans.
Today life has given us God's greatest gift with Adira. We thank fans our
friends for their unconditional support and blessings. With joy we begin this
new chapter in our lives," the ‘Mardani’ actress said in an official
statement released by Yash Raj Films.
Rani and Aditya who tied the knot in April, 2014 have been
happily married for one and half years. Rani had developed minor complications
after Diwali and was admitted to hospital. She was expected to deliver in
January, but the baby arrived little early.
Rani's brother Raja Mukerji also shared his joy at becoming ‘mama’.
"The mood in the entire family is absolutely joyous and fantastic. Both
Rani and Adi are absolutely ecstatic," he told a national daily. "Adira
rhymes with both Aditya and Rani’s names. There couldn’t have been a more
beautiful name for the baby," he added.
Congratulatory messages from started pouring in for the couple.
Veteran actor Rishi Kapoor congratulated the new parents and
tweeted, "Rani and Aditya Chopra become proud parents to a baby girl named
Adira. Congratulations!"
Karan Johar who worked with Rani in films like ‘Kuch Kuch
Hota Hai’ and ‘Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna’, wrote, “Am an uncle to a beautiful baby
girl today!!!!! @udaychopra !!! Rani and Adi had a baby girl!!”
YRF’s casting director Shanoo Sharma wrote, “It's a
girl!!!!!! Our little Goddess has arrived!!!!!”
Actor Ayushmann Khurrana, who starred in the YRF production ‘Bewakoofiyaan’
and ‘Dum Laga Ke Haisha’, congratulated baby Adira calling her 'chachu'. “Congrats
chachu!!!” he posted.
“ITS A GIRL !!!! So so excited baby Adira is born !! #Adi
#Rani,” Parineeti Chopra tweeted.
