Bollywood superstar Aamir Khan’s intolerance remark recently
has kicked up a huge row with the actor being criticised as ‘anti-national’. Now
fashion icon Sonam Kapoor too has expressed her views on intolerance.
The ‘Khoobsurat’ actress came out in defence of Aamir Khan
and said that he has been quoted out of context.
“People have taken the statement out of context. Have you
seen his entire interview or have you just picked out that one statement? It
was just a living room discussion. He basically said that he is scared that
this thought has entered his mind,” she said during a session at Agenda Aaj
Tak.
“I think it was criticising. If somebody can critique
something, that doesn’t make him an anti-national,” Sonam said and added that
she fears Aamir might never speak his mind after being a victim to such
criticism and hatred.
The actress who was last seen in Sooraj Barjatya’s ‘Prem
Ratan Dhan Payo’ also revealed that she has been a victim of racism.
“I have faced racism in many countries. They see brown skin
and they judge you already. When I go abroad people already have their
perception, like we are always in parda (veil) or our parents are very
conservative,” Sonam said.
The 30-year-old actress further said, “Even we are
judgemental, we see white skin and think the girl is loose. Judging is in human
nature. It is on us to educate people.”
Supporting discussions on intolerance, the star kid said,
“The dialogue on intolerance is great. I feel when there is a discussion and a
country is ready for the dialogue it’s good. But at the same time I feel
intolerance has always been there. We have seen all kinds of riots in the past
60 years. We have too many religions, languages and cultures, but at the same
time there will always be judgements. But the fact that people know about it is
a very healthy aspect.”
Sonam was speaking on the first day. December 11 of the two-day
event that is being held in Delhi.
