Aditya Roy Kapur, Shraddha Kapoor to star in ‘OK Kanmani’ remake

‘Ashiqui 2’ lovers Aditya Roy Kapur and Shraddha Kapoor will reunite for another romance, the Hindi remake of Mani Ratnam’s 2015 Tamil blockbuster ‘O Kadhal Kanmani’.

The remake will be produced by Karan Johar and directed by Shaad Ali who has directed films like ‘Bunty Aur Babli’ and ‘Saathiya’ and has assisted Mani Ratnam in ‘Guru’ and ‘Raavan’. Music Maestro A.R. Rahman who composed the music for the Tamil film will also be doing it for the Hindi version. Renowned lyricist and poet Gulzar will be writing the dialogues and lyrics for the film.

Karan took to Twitter to make the announcement and shared the initial details.

"Honored to collaborate with Mani Ratnam on the recreation of his labour of love....directed by Shaad Ali....@DharmaMovies..cast coming up!” he posted.

“Mani Ratnam...Gulzarsaab...AR Rahman...Shaad and us present ADITYA ROY KAPUR and SHRADDHA KAPOOR in the official recreation of #okkanmani," the ‘Student of the Year’ maker tweeted.

The Hindi remake will also reunite the award winning trio of Shaad Ali, A.R. Rahaman and Gulzar who had previously worked together in the 2002 in a romantic film ‘Saathiya’ starring Vivek Oberoi and Rani Mukherjee.

‘O Kadhal Kanmani’ marked the comeback of Mani Ratnam to romance genre after a decade. The film was a fresh take on modern day relationships and portrayed a couple in a live-in relationship in Mumbai. The film starred Dulquer Salman and Nithya Menen in the lead roles.

Prakash Raj who played the landlord in the Tamil original is said to reprise his role in the Hindi remake. The film’s cinematographer PC Sreeram, who recently filmed R Balki's rom-com 'Ki and Ka' starring Kareena Kapoor and Arjun Kapoor, will man the camera. The Hindi screenplay is being co-written by Mani Ratnam and Shaad Ali. The film will begin rolling in Mumbai soon, according to reports.

Meanwhile, Aditya who is awaiting the release of his film ‘Fitoor’ and Shraddha who is working for ‘Baaghi’ and ‘Rock On 2!!’ will be seen together on-screen after a gap of three years.
